sheding seems to kill them

i have lots 3 before some how, see greedy death
i came home today to find a shrimp jumping backwards alot, on closer inspection it was molting with half a shell hanging off. ok so i thought but 20 mins later it has stopped moving and still has half a shell on
is this a typical problem,
i have no chemicals in the tank as i have 3 day old fry in net
water was 50% change a week ago and now with fry 10% daily
all readings are good amonia 0 trite 0 trate <5 ph 7.4, 24 c temp

I'm not sure that this is the problem, but I know that shrimp need iodine to be able to molt properly.
Try feeding them shrimp pellets or nori (the seaweed used to wrap sushi). Both of these should have a supply of iodine in them.

like sirdarksol said, iodine is VERy important for molting. Molting is the most stressful and critical part of shrimps lives. I cant say its common but, one way to present iodine to them is feeding them proper foods and plant ferts that contain it.

Hope this helps!!! Also, shrimps only live for about 1-2 years. Could they just be old? Who knows how long the petstore had them.
