Ghost Shrimp

Does anyone know what the latin name is for Ghost shrimp?

Do Shrimp tend to shed at night?

We started out with a small 12l tank for my daughter and she wanted to have brine shrimp/sea monkeys in it. Then decided she wanted to save the ghost shrimp from being food (bless). We had 20 as it was 20 for £1.

We ended up getting a bigger tank the water control was a nightmare with a small tank and we are now down to 4 shrimp in a 200l tank. (we are expanding and have some Algae eating shrimp and 7 Glowlight Tetras)

Love them lots they are great to watch! and very nosey! If you put your finger in they come and say hello and climb on.

Welcome to Fishlore!

Palaemonetes species, likely ivonicus.

I don't know when they normally shed.

They are great little critters.

I have 2 ghost shrimp and 1 Algae eating shrimp. The ghosts are very fun to watch.
My ghosts like frozen bloodworms,I use a eyedropper to feed them them.

As for shedding, molting as it called, they can do it ANYTIME. Mine have done it at night and during the day. They do it to grow,so when they need more room, off comes the old shell. They are VERY sensitive for about 2 to 3 hour after they molt. Its best to have something that they can hide on or in after the event. Once their shell harden they are right back to there old selfs.

Hope that help you.
