Just got a ghost shrimp, have Qs

I went to the store today to purchase a yo yo loach and a ghost shrimp smuggled himself into the bag. I got home, acclimated my fish, let him out, and then did a double take when I realized there was also a shrimp in there! The shrimp seems to be very active but I'm worried about him being in with my yo yo. The yo yo is about 2" and the shrimp is 3/4" I saw the yo yo nip at the shrimp once but it wasn't hurt. Later on the shrimp was munching a part of an algae wafer practically in front of the yo yo and the yo yo didn't do anything. Tomorrow I'm going to the store to get some small pieces of driftwood that I can fit together so that only the shrimp can fit inside. Will this be enough or should I be making plans for a 10 gallon for the shrimp?

As long as there are hiding places (mine like to get down towards the base of the plants, right above the gravel) it should be fine. The nipping might of been a "hey, didn't realize that was you" thing - my zebras constantly did that to my shrimp but to my knowledge they never killed any and none suffered any injuries.

I think with enough hidding places the shrimp should be fine. They are realy facinating critters though. Try feeding them a freeze dryed blood worm they go bonkers over them.

Make sure the Yoyo doesn't get stuck in the driftwood!

ooh thats right, they like to squish themselves into too-small places...Well, I did just pick up a small piece of driftwood specifically for Stowie (I've decided to name him Stowaway but have a thing for nicknames). It has small-sized holes that only a shrimp should be able to fit into. It's soaking with some Mopani wood I couldn't help getting (I love the stuff). I'll keep a close eye on the loach after I put the wood in. Should I try to sand the edges of the holes so they aren't sharp?

Shrimps love Java moss! They hide in it and feed in it. You could get some, and get a few more shrimps too.

perfect! I noticed that he did gravitate to the little bit of java moss that I already have. I'll get some more tomorrow then since they like it so much. Thanks for the tip! I put some bloodworms in late last night and Stowie went bonkers over them! He ate until he was stuffed and for the rest of the evening you could see the bloodworm in his tummy lol.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did
You may need to separate the fry. Try posting this again in the beginner's section. A lot of knowledgeable people check in there frequently to help answer questions and this post is kinda old. I hope someone can help you! I don't know much about the breeding side of ghost shrimp. Good luck and welcome to FishLore!
