Believe it or not: Good LFS Story :)

So I was out of town and happened to see a rather large LFS, couldn't help myself and popped in to check it out.

Suffice to say I was very impressed, awesome variety of marine, tropical FW and cold fw, all the tanks were clean (well all except one that had a massive piece of DW still leaching tannins ). They even had parameters on every tank.

But this is the kicker, I was wondering around, drooling, wishing I could take some of their livestock (as I'm sure we all do) and there were some beginners buying their first tank/setup.

The discussion went something like this:

LFS: "What would you like to keep? Plants/fish, fish only"
Cust: "Fish only"
LFS: "OK, well any of these kits will suffice..... the filtration is better on this one... etc" and went through the 3 stage filtration vs UGF
Cust: "OK we'll take that one, and we'll get some tetras"
Blown away by this response
LFS: "We don't recommend buying fish straight away, new tanks are not ready for fish" then proceeded to explain the cycling process.
LFS: "We recommend using fish food or raw shrimp to start the process, and testing your water every day, and don't change it till all your ammonia and nitratites are gone, when you get nitrates, then you can put some fish in"

They even had proper acclimatisation techniques posted everywhere.

Anyway, suffice to say the customers walked out with an API test kit, some raw shrimp and their new tank.

My point, I could not believe it!!!!

Pity that LFS is so far away, otherwise I'd be shopping there all the time.

That's some good news that at least some stores out there are willing to put the right thing in front of money.

Sounds just like my LFS !

Pity that the local Petsmart isn't like that (typical horror story). Our Petco also does an excellent job taking care of their fish, except they have a rather limited variety.

Ooooh, could you please tell me the name of that place, Ryan? And which town? I have a fair few LFS in my city, but I don't mind travelling a bit just to check out others if I've heard good things about them I'm guessing it's not in Melbourne?

It's in Frankston, about 1hr south-east of Melbourne. Can't remember its name "Bun...." something, it's in the yellow pages.

Thanks

Could it be Bunarong aquarium in Frankston? I've started making a list of places I may visit next time I'm in Melbourne.
