Interesting article

Since I once made my living on a commercial fishing boat I think it will be interesting to see what direction they finally go with this.

I'm sure I know why the connection isn't being severed. It's for the same reason it was made: The thing facilitates shipping greatly.

Of course, fishing in several Great Lakes is already going down the tubes due to the zebra mussel and another, similar mussel that works in deeper water. We've screwed them up pretty severely, and every last bit of that has been due to making shipping and trade easier.
Like you, I'm interested in seeing where they go with this.

I don't usually think this way but if they want to take care of this option with 80 million dollars, why not put a bounty on the CARP's head and pay people to fish them out of the rivers? This would put money in the people's pockets. $10 or $20 dollars a fish. Wow! I think I just ended the recession. LOL Give the politicians a chance they will decide (after fish are in the lakes.

Sadly, it's been tried and doesn't work. In addition, many Minnesota fisherman took it upon themselves to fish out and kill as many carp as possible. All it ever did was litter the shores with carp carcasses. The problem is that carp breed like rabbits, and you don't get the fry when you fish for them, you pretty much only get the adults. Some of the fry will then survive to adulthood, spawn, and the problem begins again.
Many invasive animals are like that; the only way to truly eradicate them from a locale is to sterilize the locale, an option which isn't all that useful in most scenarios.
