Fish with no air or filtration!!!

Hi, I have no power since about 10am and its not expected to come back until 5pm tmrw, 2/11. Will my fish die without air or filtration? I have put some water in a tuberware and placed the bio-filter in there so it stays saturated.

You should also wrap a blanket around the tank to keep the fish warm.

Personally, I would go in every hour or two and swish the water at the top around to add some oxygen.

If you can, get a battery operated air pump.

I just assumed Platyfish was snowbound, and unable to get to a store. Bad assumption.

Most places that sell bait will generally have the battery operated air pumps with an airstone and tbing for around 12 bucks the LFS has them here as well

WalMart has battery operated aerators in the fishing section. Good luck with your tank. A previous thread talked about the chemically activated hand/foot warmers placed in ziplock bags to keep the tank warm.

Time to prepare for power outages
Hello. Above is a link that may help you. Be sure to check the links within the thread as well.

I highly recommend the air pump in the above link. It plugs into an outlet and automatically comes on when the power goes out. 2 D (I think it is) batteries required.

Also I suggest adding all of your good bio filter media into the tank itself so that it has a food source.

Best of luck!
Ken
