Paper towel in aquarium

Okay, I have used an aquarium safe sponge to clean my aquarium for a good while now. I noticed the sponge had started to fall apart, so I have stopped using it. I have 0$ dollars right now, I have bad algae in my fresh water 10 gallon. Can I use a paper towel to clean the inside of the aquarium? If not, is there some other household item I could use? Thanks...

Any brand new sponge that doesn't have detergents of any kind on it is fine. Some filter sponge will work at a pinch as will a brand new never used razor blade to scrape the aquarium sides. Be carefull using the razor if you have an acrylic tank, they scratch easily if you get the angle of the blade wrong.

I've used paper towel in mine before. It's messy but didn't seem to adversely affect the fish.

Good morning. Paper towels should be ok for a glass tank.

For my acrylic betta tank I only use a brand new, white (no dyes), NEVER seen soap 100% cotton T-Shirt. (thanks lucy!)

I've used paper towels before as well. Try to use a good thick brand though or else it will quickly fall apart in water.

When your budget allows, a Mag Float would be a great option. I use all different sizes and I love them.

Yeah, I'm def gonna get a mag float. They seem to work very good. I have seen them scratch tanks before though in an episode of la fish guys when he was servicing the cylinder aquarium. Right now, I am using some clean new filter media that works just fine.
