dropped fish uhh ohh

hey guys today i bought a high fin spotted pleco and the guy at the store DROPPED IT ON THE GROUND
It wasn't really his fault the bag just had a hole in it but i thought he would have given me a discount or something. It was on the ground for like 30 second do you think it will be ok. I have it in my tank now and it seems normal im no pleco expert, this is my first one.

the thing that bugs me the most is he didn't even say sorry or any thing, and i have seen that guy before at that fish store and he is always rude, like when i want to buy a fish like a male guppys we doesn't even let me choose which one i want.

Im realy split here because that is my favorite fish store and all the other people there are nice but except this guy.

Maybe use some stress coat? opefully he'll be fine.

Next time, though, you should ask for someone else to help you, or go to a different store. Also, have you talked to management about his attitude, if it is that bad.

with some prestine water and some stress coat, he should be ok.....next time, refuse to buy a fish when something like this happens...and if its a family owned store, they value ANY business and usually try to keep the customers happy..its their only way to compete with chain stores...id speak to the owner also good luck with him!

The fish ought to be okay, like said above.

The only time I don't pick the specific fish I want is if there are 100 in the
tank and it's just not feasable. Then, I'm happy to just get the sexes right.

If they don't care about you getting the fish you want, then I'd look for a new store.

i dont even think the guy can tell sexes and he doesn't even know which fish is which u have to show him with one u want and stuff. Im only 13 and im pretty sure i know more about fish and aquariums then him.

You're most likely correct.
That isn't an uncommon thing with fish stores.

Fish are tougher than they look - I think he'll probably be okay. Keeping him in nice clean water he should be fine. Especially if you can't see any obvious injuries.

my bichir swam up the vac hose and got stuck at the on/off valve. Took me a couple minutes to get him out. I ended up having to shoot him out with water pressure. He was all sorts of beat up, but after 3 weeks in a QT I put him back in the big tank.

I've had to teach my LFS guy how to sex fish. I'm so particular that he hands me the bag and the net

Plecos are pretty hardy. My SIL has one (18 inches now) who when it was smaller jumped out of the tank. She found it in the toy box next to the tank and it was drying and bent. But she noticed it was breathing and she threw it back in... it straigtened back out, and has tripled its size since. Now a couple years later you would never know it had that stress.
Next time I would tell them to put it back and get a new one. You are already adding stress by changing it's environment, and stress will make them suseptible to disease. The less stress they have getting home the better. But I do think your pleco will be fine.

Good morning,
So sorry to hear that the fish was dropped but I agree chances are good that it will be ok. I too would refuse the fish should this ever happen again. There is no excuse for rudeness.

I've been there myself. When I was getting one of my Malawi, the guy dropped him. I politely asked him to get me a different one. Since then, he has an attitude with me every time I go to the store, but he's friendly with everyone else. He wasn't there the last time I was there. I'm crossing my fins he lost his job.

If your pleco is acting normally, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just keep an eye on him and I'm sure he'll be fine.
