Proud mum

My son Zach had his school swimming carnival today. He's been training pretty hard for the last few months leading up and then got sick on monday. He ended up with a pretty nasty throat infection, antibiotics, 3 days off school and no training at all this week. So today he swam in every race he could. Won his 50 free and swam a PB. Won his 50 fly. 2nd in 50 back in an open age, and 3rd in 50 breast in open age. He won his 100 free by 20 metres! They cancelled the 4 by 50 relay and 200 IM due to time restrictions, but he was all ready to swim in both those races as well. He's 12 yrs old, and has made me so very proud with his grit and determination to not only succeed but to not let his team down. Well done my boy!!

Congrats to you both Dru! Do you have an Olympian on your hands? (I'm a big fan of the Olympics)
Hope you've been doing well.

Thanks Ken
As you may know I'm a swim coach, and Zach has actively resisted training for years. I've always made him do a couple of sessions a week but never pushed him to do something just because it's my passion. It's really exciting to see him embrace something and do well. His times are a very long way from potential Olympian times but who knows, he's got a beautiful natural style. It's all about how bad he wants it. I love the Olympics too, and what impresses me most about those guys is the pure heart they have to work SO hard to achieve their goals.
