Shame on you, McDonalds

I just saw a McDonalds commercial on TV and was so irritated by what I saw that I had to come to you guys. In the ad, the girl talks about the value of a dollar, blah blah blah, but the point is, it showed her buying a fancy goldfish and keeping it in a TINY bowl! Thanks McDonalds, for perpetuating these horrible fish myths... And making people fat.

Maybe that's why so many people do this, because they see it on TV and think "Well if they can keep a goldfish like that then I can, too!"

I saw that commercial, too. And then Petco sends out a coupon flyer with a photo of an adult woman holding a bowl that has about 2 cups of water in it.....and, of course, she has a healthy betta in there!!! Makes me want to burn the store down.

I worked at Burger King when I was in high school, about 3 lifetimes ago now. Once you've worked at these places, you no longer frequent them as a customer.

Yeah ...I saw that commercial! The goldfish in the bowl irritated me too but it went mostly through my subconcious. I had forgotton all about that commercial until you mentioned it again. Just shows how dangerously insidious McDonalds can be ...

IM just upset cause they changed their shakes, now they come in a smaller mccafe medium cup with whipped cream and a cherry, Its fast food, If I wanted a sundae shake id go to DQ.

Its bad enough you have to modify the normal burger to get it fresh then the king over there with his "flame-broiled burgers" and you even gotta ask those knucklehead for it OFF THE BROILER to get it like that.

/rant for mcdonalds and fast food

I got a thing for seeking out fishtanks on tv, youd be suprised how many shows keep things in more then too small of habitats, I think hampsters got it best.

You'd probably like the food they're selling here in Oz then. As of yet both Maccas and BK still sell the good old basics, no real changes to speak of yet. Guess it's probably only a matter of time though...

Its funny, I watched poltergeist the other day. Early on, the little girls bird dies and she asks for a goldfish. Later that night it shows TWO large sized goldfish in a bowl you couldnt even pour a gallon into. On top of that, she is pouring an entire container of food into the bowl saying "come and get it!"

Most people would probably think, aw what a cute girl overfeeding her fish.

My only thought was poor fish!

they wouldn't show that advert over here in england, they would get too many complaints. Makes you wonder what the fillet of fish is made of.

Just as Jenn said, Elmo (if you remember him from Sesame Street) has a pet goldfish in a tiny bowl. A real, live goldfish, too. Actually, it was his second goldfish. The first one died fairly early. I WONDER WHY...

Stupid Sesame Street making young children think about putting goldfish in bowls.
