Another Foster Cat

Some owners brought a cat into my wife's hospital and tried every which way to convince the doctors to euthanize her. They really just wanted to pur ther down because they didn't want her anymore.

Can you believe some people!?

Of course the doctors would never do such a thing and they convinced them to relinquish the cat to Almost Home.

Almost Home can't find a foster so quickly, so we're kind of the emergency foster home. Hopefully they set up a real foster soon so she can get settled in somewhere, she's pretty skittish right now.

Plus...our lease specifies a maximum of two cats per residence, and little Jasmine is number three. She's got to go, unfortunately.

Those doctors are saints. Not all vets are against doing things like that. Like some pet owners, some vets still think of animals as objects.

Was it the previous "caretakers" that gave her the lion-cut tail, or did she have snarls in it?

Anyway, that's wonderful that you're giving her a temporary home. I'm sure the foster group will find a foster home quickly.

Her whole body is shaved because she got a lot of hairballs, so they say. They probably just didn't want fur on the furniture. *eye roll*

You're right, some vest still rock the old school notion of animals == property...but you shouldn't go to those doctors. How can they properly treat your animal if they're so quick to use euthanasia?

I agree on the vet thing. Part of the problem is that a lot of good pet owners will never find out if their vet is like that, since they're not going to go in and ask for pointless euthanasia.

The hairball thing could be true. My wife's old cat was part Maine coon, and would get horrible, horrible snarls that would actually bind up her body so that her movement was limited. She had to be shaved periodically (leaving about 1/2"), though they left her with a mane, a puffball at the end of the tail, and boots (this was because they couldn't shave those bits without knocking her out... and that was too much stress for regular shaving)

She's gorgeous, Tavel! Thank you to both you and your wife for caring for her until another foster home can be found

That's so sad. I can't believe the way some people treat animals. She looks a lot like one of my cats. I hope the rescue can find her a home soon!

I had to rehome my poor kitties for medical reasons, and not once did I ever consider killing them. I'm appalled at your story.

I spent hours on the phone calling shelters to see if any could take them. I found one in a city 2 hours away, drove them up their, and when I found out it was a kill shelter, drove them back home rather than leaving them there. Then I called around again, finally finding a shelter that would take them. This place was awesome - no cages for the kitties. They had a huge room with loads of cat toys where the cats live until they are adopted or die of natural causes. I made a generous donation to help with their care. I called a few weeks later and they had been adopted.

I thank people like you who provided a home for my cats when I couldn't. If not for the generosity of strangers, my cats could have been killed too.

Good of you taking the poor thing in. Hopefully they can find a foster home for her soon.
I'm not going to agree with the whole vets being pro-euthinasia but that's a different argument.

hehe thanks everyone.

It looks like we ARE the foster home because the rest are filled for now. It's nice, but it's also annoying because they said we'd only have to watch her for a few days.

maybe someone will adopt her on Saturday (at the adoption show). She's very loving, when she's not hiding under the bed!

Oh btw: I say "another" because one of my cats was technically a foster that i adopted anyway...can't do that again though

I was kind of wondering if that would happen (with the economy the way it's been, all of the foster homes around here have been full for several years).

Sending good adoption thoughts your way. Good luck.

the landlord (manager really) won't really make a fuss. She's a nice girl, she won't make use do anything extreme....assuming she even finds out, it's not like they do apartment inspections.

It's just not a good idea to go against the lease, bad mojo comes form dishonesty.
