Hypocritical LFS

I went to my closest LFS to pick up some ghost shrimp and noticed they had a nice poster on the wall saying they belong to some organization that has a pact against selling large fish such as pacu, red tailed shark, and iridescent shark because they get HUGE and post home aquariums can't handle them. I thought this was admirable since it is a huge problem and then started looking at the tanks while the owner was helping another lady. You will never guess what I saw, prices on a tank for *ahem* red tailed shark and iridescent shark. I ask the owner why she has a poster on the wall saying she has a pact to not sell the fish and prices for them, she said they don't actually carry them. I then pointed out that the 5 fish in the tank were all red tails and posting a sign about having a pact to not sell the fish for a valid reason and then clearly selling them is hypocritical and really messed up. The owner was mad that I would make such a big deal out of this in front of other customers, but I feel they have a right to know the sort of people they were doing business with and I left.

Sorry I had to rant, she was basically lying to customers and ripping them off at the same time, last time I EVER walk in that store.

Dave

PS- She was selling rummynose and neon for 3.99 to give you an idea of her pricing

Good for you. Shoot, you could go as far as reporting her to that ORG. Thou, it also might sound like she just got the poster from somewhere to fake it.

I'm with you, I'd not go there again.

Yeap They do that to make you think they want to benefit the fish and environment. Some usually name the fish different to make you think they are different but if you know the fish by their looks you can catch them lying.

What's wrong with selling red-tail sharks to aquarists? They are aggressive, but they don't get huge...

Yeah we had some. They don't get huge they were probably confusing them with another fish.

I watched a episode of River Monsters last night that showed those red tail catfish. They were just massive!
