| Upgrades and restocking. Well, i've gotten a bit bored with my 35g. Recently i was going through a rough patch as i was losing interest in the hobby, but in hopes to make it better i plan on playing around with my 35g.
I have gotten a bit bored with my Convicts. I've just lost interest in them, and infact, they kinda make me angry how the big one wont let the little one out.
Anyway, here's what i hope to do in the following weeks...
I will upgrade the filter to a double cascade. This was i wont have that much current (Right now my filter has a huge powerhead that basically causes whirls and throws around my fish if they swim near it. Even the big 5 inch con.) So, changing the filter will allow me to have common fish (IMO as the filter i had limited the types of fish i could get.) I want to have the following, let me know what you think:
2 Angels
12 Neons
8-9 Zebra danios
5 cories
5 kuhlis
1 raphael cat
I think at that point i will be overstocked... I would be willing to eliminate a few... but i really would like all of them...
Do you think that with more filtration i could pull it off? I have good tank maintinance... and well i really like all of the fish on the list
The reason i NEED the angels is because ever since i got the tank i wanted it to be an angel tank, but the filter would have thrown them around, making them weak and stressed, which could have let them to their death.
The Neons i just love how they school, and they're my mother's favorite, so they must be there as well. I know that angels snack on them in the wild, but i wondered if i got the angels while they were still small they would get used to them being around and not snack on them.
The danios also are one of my fav fish, as they would also act as dithers and well keep the other fish comfortable.
The kuhlis i've always wanted, but with the other fish i've kept they werent likely to survive as they would be hunted down.
and the cory's... well... i just love them and they would help my raphael come out more.
Sorry for the long post hehe i get carried away a little bit |

| Where would the Cons be going? The angels may snack on the neons & danios - but I know Shawnie has kept the 2 together. |

| Hmm, I'm not going to comment on whether you've got too many fish (since I'm not sure) - however, when the angelfish get pretty large, they MAY decide that the neons are an inbetween snack and eat them. It depends on how large the angelfish get, but I personally wouldn't mix those two - or angels with any small fish. |

| Thats what i was thinking too... they could eventually get "curious" about the neons and well try them...
I could change them to other types of schoolers... |

| I keep a large school of neons (20 +) with my angels. My angels are big and I have not had any problems, my tank is 55G with driftwood and plants, the angels spend most of their time looking for the hand above the tank (feeding time). The neons, corys and other tetras spend their time cruising looking for leftovers. If your fish are underfed, they will hunt, if you feed your fish live food, they will hunt.
As far as stocking levels, I don't see a problem if you do regular water changes. |

| Hi Tony,
That sounds like a good plan If you are worried about the angels and the neons, you could go with cardinals instead since they grow larger and look very similar. I think you will really enjoy the angel tank. I miss mine because it was so fun to watch with so much going on at all levels of the tank. My only suggestion (and this is just my personal preference) would be to nix the danios and just go with a large school of cardinals or neons. I think that schooling fish look better when they are in large groups, however, that is just my opinion.
Edit: Also, if you plant the tank, that will help with the overstocking |

I dont think I'm going to plant it. My light is not good enough... but maybe i will try it eventually. Im not ready for live plants right now. I tried it, and failed, so i will wait a little.
This tank is gonna be amazing |

| No live fish. Shrimp like ghosts or cherries are on the border IMO, but if you're worried I would skip any shrimp. BBS are fine |

where would the fish swim with this stock? hate to be the bad guy, but IMO , there wont be much swim space angels, neons, and danios, are more of a horizontal swimmer...and in that size tank, I know the danios will stress those angels out to the max ..even with extra maintenance, and extra filtration, I think IMO, you will have some stressed out fish with lack of swim space for top and bottom..but I do wish you well !! |

| In all my tanks, I have but one real plant....In the 2.5 gallon cherry shrimp tank
Fake plants are easy to maintain and don't require special lights, costing less. |

| Tony, before I planted my tanks, I had some silk amazon sword plants in my angel tank and they loved it. They even spawned on the leaves. Just thought I would throw in the idea |

| on drsfostersmith they have a sale if you buy six plants, and they have some GREAT looking silk ones. I'm not sure if they ship to mexico, actually I sorta doubt it, but I think it is worth a shot Maybe your LFS will have some similar ones. They also have a nice variety of sizes and such too .
Also, if you wanted, you could try low light plants. I have a 2 amazon sword plants in my tank right now, and with just a basic hood and no fertilizer they are growing great |

| Wow Tony you stocking list is close to what I now have in my 72 gallon tank. I would definitely drop the danios as they might stress out the other fish.
Good Luck with you new set up. |
