A few giggles

...about the things our non-fishy family might find annoying about our addictions to tanks!

Here's mine.

-I keep it very warm in our home (78-80) for our fish, thus they don't need heaters. I tend to love walking around like it's summer, but my fiance doesn't. He is getting sick of sweating.

-Empty water jugs, buckets taking up space in our dining area next to the tanks to hold the water I'm aging.

-I don't need measuring spoons to cook anymore. I can guestimate fairly well dumping into my hand. So, my measuring spoons belong to my fish now. My fiance on the other hand, is not so adept with measuring ingredients, so is lost!

-I tend to leave my conditioners, "bloodworm thawing container," etc. on the kitchen counter for a day or two before I put it away.

-I'm ridiculously careful with lotions/ contaminants on my hands so no one is allowed to feed my fish here unless they surgical-style scrub their hands first!

-I go into the pet store for only one thing I might need and end up coming out with about 4 other things I don't need.

Thank the lord my fiance loves me and thus can put up with my obsession! Anyone have anything else to add?

My husband complains about my fish/frogs but watches when I feed the bettas and frogs and makes nummy nummy sounds while they eat.

Teehee, they do like to pretend they don't love them nearly as much, don't they?

For the little complaints I do get sometimes my fiance sure does love making his own version of betta flares at my tanks. And lately I've been spoiling the 10 gallon a bit more than usual with more frozen food so when they see him they start begging. Makes him feel special.

The constant suggestion of getting more tanks. I have been talking about fish well before my wife and I were married, in fact we used to have a betta ( I shudder at how we kept the poor guy). Now I keep talking about the other tanks that I want, the pond in the back yard and the aquaponics setup for our garden.

My parents always complain on how much the light bill has raised.

They also complain on the slight humm and cascade of my filters.

just a few things They put up with them though.

My daughter's favorite saying is "There's no more fish in the sea. They're all in our tanks"

Humidity anyone? That's the biggest complaint I get, another would be the light bill... but since it can come in at less then $40.00 (and the tanks are all on auto timers so that's not a variable I don't think you can complain too much...

I would love some humidity! I don't think I could even have enough tanks to combat the dryness of our heat, it's ridiculous! lol

The evaporation rate is crazy and our family walks around and give each other static shocks all day long, for real.

You sound like me keeping the amount of birds and the number of tanks we actually have away from my father! He still hasn't got the actual number and he's been in the house a time or two.

I'm not sure, at least its empty! (for now) My parents always complain how the electricity bill is massive (even though I only have one 10 gallon), and almost always refuse to let me buy more tanks when my MTS flares up. (I'm still intent on that 3g betta tank and 5g cherry shrimp tank)

Two options:

1. Drapes!
2. If they're senile (my parents have their moments), tell them it's always been there

LOL, I haven't gone a single day without bringing up getting another tank or fish related stuff since I joined, my parents are probably going to force me to quit fishlore if I don't stop annoying them. My mom likes my hobby but my dad really dislike it.my parents each have different roles, mom: dream builder, my dad: dream crusher. I saw a 210 gallon tank on craigslist for 350 dollars. I emailed the guy and got all the measurements and I told my mom and she started to measure places to put it. My dad walked in and saw the tape measure and automatically said"no you can't get another tank" LOL

Unfortunately, I can only get little tanks (not too much room in my house), so my parents are a little relieved, but still complaining about the electricity bill of a 10g tank.

lol, my mom & boyfriend are ALWAYS complaining about my tanks!!
Yet last night my mom comes up to me & says "Oh, btw I fed your Oscars some nightcrawlers." I was like - see you really do like them! lol
And my boyfriend keeps talking about the 400 gal. he wants in his shop & the indoor pond he wants when we get out own place for rescued Pacu, Arowana, ID Sharks, Plecos, etc.

Lucky, but it sometimes helps to have some one say no if you are code orange mts, that way you don't need to stack tanks on top of each other or putting yourself in debt

My parents think I'm crazy for keeping all these fish....(I've got beginner's MTS, 4 tanks in my bedroom!) Haven't heard any complaints about the electric bill going up, but I bet their computers contribute more than my tanks.

My husband's biggest complaint is that the sound of all the filters and running water in our house makes him constantly have to pee

He also doesn't like it when I spill/drip water all over the floor during water changes which happens every once in a while
