Cycling Suggestions

Hey guys, even us with experience need some help every now and then.

Heres the problem. I work 1.5-2hrs away from my house during the week, I don't come home except during the weekends. Home in this case is where my tanks are. What would be the best way to cycle a tank, seeing as though I can't be there every day to check/test it or do WCs? Any suggestions?

I think one of my best options would be to soak a sponge filter or two in the only FW tank running in my house right now (Angels) and then just seed the tank. But this presents other problems like contamination from other tanks/fish.

Any suggestions? Would you seed it or do you have any better ideas? I'm itching to get started again.

I'd use the 'dead prawn' method. It won't ever totally rot, and you won'tneed to perform PWCs on it. So you can just test it whenever you feel comfortable, and you don't need to do anything daily on it.

I'd go for seeding as long as your Angel tank is healthy.

I'm with Lucy, run an extra filter on the angel tank for a few weeks, and hopefully you'll get an instant cycle.

Feed your seeded media with a raw shrimp in your tank if you don't want to add fish right off the bat.

Thanks all. I think what I'll do is seed it, but with some clay flower pots (or something like it) instead of a sponge filter. I can easily clean a flower pot and keep the bacteria then clean a sponge and keep the bacteria.

The angel tank is healthy, but algae ridden so I really don't want to get a sponge clogged with algae. I could possibly use another sponge, but not the filter sponge.

I just hate to introduce algaes into my tank.
