any suggestions to help my brilliant child?

seems she got into some stinging nettles ..and her arms are totally inflamed and itching like crazy (like duh sweet child of mine!!!)
anyone know how to help her ?(short of me handing her a upside her bum!)

I just googled it. They say a paste from baking soda and water. So I guess it's like a bee sting for treatment. It also mentions the nettle has a histamine in it, so maybe give her some Benadryl to counteract it?

I hope this helps until one of our fishlore nurses sees this thread.

I hope she feels better. Bless her heart.

Some hydrocortisone cream would probably be good too.
Hope she feels better soon

Oh , the memories I have with stinging nettles..too embarrassed to share
Anyway, the stings are nasty and itchy, the first rule is "don't scratch" because it will itch more and more by agitating the stings. Ah, are all the stings out? If you suspect there are some left, you need to pluck them out with a tweezer or something. Or you could use some adhesive tape but that might pull out some hair too, and make it painful. A cold compress will help cool it down, but make it gentle, no rubbing. It should go away in a day or so. Those stings are actually therapeutic.

shes asleep now (thanks to the benedryl) and her bum was saved for the time being...still cant believe she did it LOL ..but bet she wont again!

EDIT:bet if i googled 'stinging nettles" instead of "stinging needles" (thought thats what she said haha) I might have found more info

Hehehe, our yard is full of stinging nettles (the sheep will eat everything else out so the nettles end up with no competition) oh the memories

I wish this tread was made a week earlier, I have a story that beats them all was playing football and I tackled a kid and when I rolled off him I rolled onto a stinnging thistle thing that was atleast 2 feet wide! I tried to get off but the kid had rolled onto my legs so when I jumped up to get off it I fell right back on top of it, my back and arm started to bleed and it itches like crazy, I just took a hot showed and it sort of helped

With all the suggestions that have been given, I'm afraid that the best advice is "bite the bullet and deal with it." The pastes and everything will shorten the duration, but it will still alternate between stinging and being numb for hours. The good news is that, unlike poison ivy, she can't spread it to other parts of her body all that easily.

I came across this information the hard way: I was weeding my garden, had never seen stinging nettles, and grabbed a cluster of them and pulled. The worst thing is that I'm not good at identifying foliage, so I can never tell the safe fuzzy things in my garden from the stinging nettles, so I have to wear gloves when doing any weeding at all.

We have them in the very bottom part of our backyard. Anything that goes in that area, I send the dogs in after, especially since it's usually their ball. Neither myself nor Shelby will go in there. That's why we have dogs. Their coats are thick enough where they don't get stuck.

Did any of you know you can cook the young plants? They are delicious if cooked right, and very rich in Iron, Mg and calcium and also vitamins (A,C,B2 and K). Also, tea made out of fresh leaves is a really good treatment for the scalp (only a bit stinky, smells like boiled grass). It's considered a medicinal plant in some parts of the world.

I've ate cooked stinging nettles and I love them.

So next time you see them in your yard, just get some plastic gloves, pick them and prepare them. They don't sting once boiled
