Do Arowanas and Gold Fish mix?

I just picked up dinner from the Chinese place around the corner and decided to take a look in their fish tank. They had a 1 foot Arowana mixed in with 3-4 inch gold fish in a 55 gallon tank that was only 3/4 full of water. I don't know where to begin with all those problems.

Eventually the goldfish will be eaten by the arowana when he/she gets big enough but who knows if the arowana will keep growing.

No. It's possible that the goldies would grow quickly enough that the arowana wouldn't be able to eat them. Full grown goldies are smaller than an arowana's mouth.
However, that doesn't matter. Goldies are temperate fish. Arowana are tropical. They have entirely different water needs. The arowana are also going to need a tank that measures in the thousands of gallons.

I know, it wasn't a real question. It was just an observation I saw today. The Arowana could still attack them, doesn't have to swallow them.

The goldfish could have been feeders that escaped and grew

The tank's water could have been that low to prevent the arowana from jumping... it still wouldnt stop him though LOL they jump like... yards

Not likely. Arowana are surface feeders, and their mouths aren't equipped for biting so much as for swallowing whole. On top of that, they aren't really aggressive. There's no need. They're the kings and queens of their waterways, and they know it. No need for them to get vicious with other fish. In this manner, they're very similar to bass. A bass won't bother any fish it can't swallow.

IMO, the tank was only 3/4 filled to prevent the glass from bending. Some aquariums, the glass are very thin and if they put a lot of water, the glass might bend and there could have a crack. My 55g's glass is quite thin. A few weeks after it cycled, I filled the whole tank full, then the top divider that holds the two long glass broke, therefore causing my tank glass to bend. So now my 55g is actually just filled with 50g of water.

There is no intelligence behind this. The tank was half filled for months with just goldfish. They weren't feeders, they are the gold fish you see in every Chinese restaurant. Some have the bubble eyes. The Arowana just appeared this week.
