What a week!

I was up in Wellington over the weekend, and returned to find a leak in one of my 40gals, and my Convicts paired, with the male, Demon, beating up every other fish in the tank whilst the female eggs him on. So I've been thinking about downsizing my stock for a while now, and using my tanks to concentrate on just a few species, and decided this was the sign to start! First task was to fix the 40gal (crack in the bottom), I've patched it up, and it's now sat outside on the deck waiting for the sealant to cure. So the next thing was to temporaraly re-home the stock from that tank,(no easy task!), and then decide which fish to keep and which to sell.\

I've decided to keep my Guppies obviously, and use 4 of my tanks, 40g, 40g, 20g, and nanocube for breeding them. And I'm keeping my Caete Cichlid trio, who will share one of the 40gals with my breeding male Guppies, and my Loaches. I've given Demon and Elektra,(my Cons), a 20gal long to themselves, and obviously the 90gal stays as it is.

So I've sold my Angelfish and Blue Acaras to a friend of mine who has a 75gal, they should be very happy there, and my Kribs are going to live at the same house as my other Oscar went to about a year ago, another friend of mine. I'm a bit sad to see these guys go, but it means that I can use their tanks for my Guppies as they grow, who otherwise would just have been eaten! On the plus side I know they're going to very good homes and will be well looked after. Hopefully next week will be less work...........

Wow, good luck with that, I'm thinking of venturing in to guppy breeding myself, but slowly! One of my females decided to give birth after I bought her, so was sort of thrown in suddenly at the deep end, but we have a good few babies now, and it's amazing watching them grow.
Best of luck and hope you get it all sorted out soon
(P.S. love the little male in your sig!)

Geez, Nick. Talk about bad luck.
I'm glad you know other fish keepers who will take good care of your fish.
It sounds like you've gotten a handle on everything, good for you!

Thanks guys! The 40gal is now back on it's stand, and I'll be setting it up again this evening, although I'm now thinking about putting my Jewels in there instead of using it for Guppies. The Jewels are all doing fine in the 90gal, but they're now getting seriously outmatched when it comes to feeding time, as Brute, Cresswell and Punk, my Oscar, JD and Severum are getting so much bigger than they are. So I think I'll rescape the 40 for them, and maybe think about getting Cresswell a girlfriend to replace them in the 90gal.

Wow, what a stressful week! It sounds like things are settling down though. Its definitely hard to re-home fish, but it sounds like it was for the best. I'm glad you patched up the 40 gallon okay I'm sure the jewels will enjoy a tank to themselves. Best of luck with everything!

Finally got everything sorted. The 40gal has been up and running 24hrs and appears to be leak-free, so I've moved the Jewels to the 40gal, with a few feeder Guppies, and they seem to be settling in ok, although all the Guppies are still alive! The other 40gal now has my Caete Cichlids, BN Plecs and Breeding Guppies, plus my Kribs who are going to their new home this week. I properly cleaned the Nanocube and trimmed the plants, so everyting is actually green in there! The Cons spent the last few days house cleaning their tank, so I'm expecting my first Con spawn this week too. Heres a few pics...........
