| H1n1 I'm baaaaack! Well anyway, I have currently have 12 H1N1 cases in my neighborhood so far. I'm also in contact with many people, many times a day. I wash my hands when I can, but I doubt it's good enough. I'm probably a prime canadite for the swine. Anyway, I'm wandering what you guys think on the H1N1 vaccine? Are you getting the vaccine, if so, is your family getting it to? Are you thinking about getting it? Or are you just not getting it. Just wandering what you guys think about it. Also how about this nor' easter? Last edited by 10gallonmadness; November 12th, 2009 at 04:26 PM.

| I'll get it for risk reasons and my wife must get it as a school nurse.
Normally I do not get any flu shots....my twisted logic is that if everyone else gets it, who am I gonna get it from??... |

| Actually washing your hands is one of the best methods of protecting yourself.
Whether or not to get the shot is a personal decision. I'm not getting it because I react poorly to immunizations. If I get the flu, I'm in for three or four really rough days. Of course, I'm not guaranteed to get the flu in any given year.

If H1N1 mutates, however, and becomes more dangerous, either to healthy individuals or to at-risk individuals, I will get the updated vaccine, as I don't want to be responsible for passing a truly dangerous disease around. |

| I had to get it for risk reasons as well, my mom's an OB nurse. I also work a lot with swine and I could actually transmit it to them too Wouldn't want to get my piggie friends sick.
I also can't afford to get the flu right now, let alone H1N1. There are strict quarantine rules in place here that state you're not allowed to do anything if you are confirmed to have it, and with finals coming up... yeahhh... |

| The flu shot (any of them) always works great for me. Within 1-2 days of getting the vaccine, I get the flu. Needless to say, I won't be getting the vaccine. I have already been exposed to confirmed cases of the H1N1 twice and have not been sick. I had heard that the H1N1 is the same strain of flu that went around like 40 years ago. Anyone who got it or was exposed to it then, is immune now. Naturally acquired immunity is good for life, vaccines have to be renewed yearly. I was a little kid the first time around and probably got it then, so I'm not too concerned with it now. |

| I heard that the vaccine only works if you get it after you get the H1N1 flu. There are cases of more than hundreds in my country. It's really scary but some people don't really care. They're aware of it but don't take much caution or wear any protections such as face mask. I always bring a handy sanitizer to clean my hands. |

| i heard that the vaccine (tamiflu) had some side effect on individual, so please check carefully with your doctor before you had the vaccine. Drink more water, wash your hand, wear a mask when needed, and do exerise and take real good care of yourself.
i just search on the web and found this please do take a look before you take the vaccine. http://www.tamiflu.com/sideeffects.aspx |

| Good morning. I've taken the regular flu shot but haven't had the Swine flu shot. I wash my hands so many times throughout the day I'm border line compulsive? lol I'm pretty certain I've been exposed to the Swime flu. I had to go rescue one of my neighbors from a grocery store parking lot about a month ago. She was too sick to drive home so I went and got her. Come to find out she was diagnosed with the swine flu. She's well now! yeah!!! The first thing I did when I got home was wash my hands as I had to drive her car home.
Stay safe everyone!

H1N1/09 is a mutation of the majority of our yearly flu. It has markers of a number of these strains, meaning that the older you are, the more likely that you have an inherent resistance to it. However, it is a new strain. It is not a copy of an old one. I know several people who are supposedly in the immune category who were exposed to confirmed cases and got sick. Quote:

Tamiflu is an anti-viral medication that targets influenza. It is used on people who have the virus already, and even then is only supposed to be for the really bad cases, and for people at increased risk of dying from the flu. Sorry don't wanna sound like a jerk but just trying to seperate fact from fiction.
Also, you know a trick that will reduce chances of getting sick greatly? Wipe down your keyboards. If one day you come home from, let's say, a grocery store, and you get on the computer right away and start typing you have just put all the germs you came in contact with on your keyboard. Since I know we all use ours alot it is good to know |

| My son was considered immune suppressed for a couple of years due to medications he was taking to treat his ulcerative colitis so the nurses literally chased us down with a hypodermic when we would walk into the doctors. Now however we are not considered immune suppressed so we were just encouraged to get vaccinated. Before we even had a chance my son got sick - spiked a high fever (105) for about 12 hours then low grade for another 12-18 hours then he just was gooey (congested) the nurse's at Children's said it was too early for the regular seasonal flu so it was most likely H1N1 however he wasn't tested (they didn't want him anywhere near the hospital!) He recovered very fast (in less than a week) and other than the lingering odor of Lysol and Purell everyone else in the house is fine.
My teenage son doesn't want the flu shot (he's almost 18 - I think it's his choice) and the rest of us don't usually get it but we tend to recover from most things pretty fast - we drink tons of Vitamin C!
I too have very mixed feelings about the vaccines - alot of my clientele are medical personel and they keep me grounded when I start to freak out because of what I see on the news. Best advice ever - wash your hands, wash your hands , wash your hands - oh and cough into your arm! |

I agree about the vaccines. I think it seems like one of those things that they still need to get the bugs out of. |

| Our County is giving out free N1H1 today so I went ahead a got my shot. I'm considered at risk so what the heck!!
The wash hands and cough into arms is a super good advice....my wife had to teach that to her school of 507 pre-K to second graders..
"Wash you hands to the ABC's, cough and sneeze into your sleeves, please!!" They all learned it...and teach mom and dad. |

| I am not getting the vaccine. I take vitamins C and D every day, and gargle with saltwater every night. Once the germs get into your system, it takes around 3 days for them to multiply into enough to make you sick, so gargling with saltwater helps to kill them off before they can multiply. |
