OMG stop drinking turtle water

My cats' water dish runs dry overnight and they start drinking from the turtle tank. They haven't puked since I got that fancy new filter, but it still can't be good for them.

Has anyone used one of these? I understand how it works (like a water cooler), but I'm unsure because it has a removable lid...I don't want to come home to a kitchen full of water.

the alternative is this, it looks simpler and more reliable...but I don't like supporting walmart's world-conquering endevours. (I could get it from somewhere else i suppose, haha)

I tried one of those once, but I think the water gets stale sitting in the bottle; one of my more finicky drinkers refused to use it. Also, the little hole where the water come into the dish needs to be cleaned regularly so that bacteria doesn't build up.

Have you tried a kitty water fountain? For example: http://www.amazon.com/Petmate-Deluxe.../dp/B000084F2Q This keeps the water filtered and circulating so it doesn't get stale and the flow is entertaining for kitties (part of hte appeal of the fish tanks, I suspect).

Is it possible to get them a bigger bowl or multiple bowls?

My cats have two stainless steel bowls for water. While I do use an battery operated feeder with a timer for their dry food (I got tired of having them meow loudly and walk on me in the middle of the night telling me they were staaaaarving for breakfast) my cats will not drink out of plastic. Nor do they like water that has been sitting for days. I can't even imagine them drinking turtle water... unlike my dogs, they are way too finicky.

Simply use a larger water bowl for the cats?

a larger bowl was an option, but I still have to buy that...and if I'm buying things I like to consider all of my options.

I think it will be difficult to remove food bits and debris from the reservoir type dishes, which is probably why the water becomes stale over time.

I don't have an outlet near the dishes, so a filter unit is out as well. (Unless there is a 120v plug behind my refrigerator, I'll have to look.)

Larger bowl it is.

I have had Le Bistro water dishes before. They're pretty good. I think the water does get a bit stale after a bit, because one of my cats would always knock it over when she thought it wasn't fresh enough. This would usually be preluded by her sitting at the bathroom door, waiting for a drink from the tap. Still, they're useful if your cats drink alot or if you spend long stretches away from home.

I have one of those blue bowl things from Wal-Mart, one of my cats would always knock it over when it was no longer up to her standards.
We have about 3 bowls around the house for my cats. And they get re-filled multiple times. Of course...I have 13 cats.

we have 3 persians and we cant use those bottle fed water bowls, for some reason the cats like to drop food into the water bowl and leave it, making the water super nasty. we have to clean their water bowls at least every other day because its gross.
