Moving house - How do I move the tank?

Heya all ^^
I'll be moving house next year and I was wondering if anyone else has had to move a fish tank (mines 170 litres) and fish to a new house?
I'm worried cause it's a pretty darn big tank and as far as i know it would'nt be a good idea to tip all the water out and start again after bagging the fishies?

If anyone has any tips it would be fantastic!
Thanks in advance

I would bag all the fishes up or put them in a cooler box with an air stone depending on how far you are moving and how long it will take to take down and re set up the tank.

Remove all the decorations and place them in a bucket filled with water with a lid, the same with the filter media.

Then remove all the water, i'm not sure how big a 170 litre tank is, but you might want to remove all the gravel into a bucket or rubber maid container for transport unless its light enough weight with out water in just the gravel to move.

Once you get to the new house replace the gravel and decorations. Fill the tank with new water (Don't forget water conditioner) get the tank water up to the correct heat, then condition the fish as if you had just bought them, floating the bag to get the water the same temperatures, start adding bit of water every few minutes etc....

I have already moved 1500 miles this year with my tanks and have another move coming up at the end of the year or beginning of next year!

Couple more things:

= Don't keep the water in the tank when you move it, the sloshing will create stress on the tank and potentially break the glass or split a seam.

= Keep the car at 78F for the fish - or provide a way to keep the water the fish are in at 78F (assuming you have tropical fish not coldwater fish)

Thanks so much for the advice I can't tell you how worried I was about all this and the effect it would have on my fish!
It's good to know there is a tried and tested way to do this
Good luck on your move later in the year ^^ and thanks again for such detailed advice!
