new car!

My wife was in an accident and we found ourselves in the unusual position of needing a new car, right now.

We basically had one day to shop for cars, so we ended up buying the first one we looked at. I know, I know, bad practice...but we didn't really have time on our side.

Besides, you can't really go wrong with a Toyota. So we got a 2005 Toyota Corolla, Dark Blue, paid in cash ('cus we're awesome like that.)

We got a fair deal. They were dead-set on $10,000 because it was already well below everyone else price. But I was like "we don't HAVE that much cash, you gotta do better."

Then they knocked off $300, still not good enough. We were getting up to leave when they suddenly threw in lifetime oil changes and discounted maintenance package...NOW we're coming to an agreement! lol!

The book value is about $9,200 and we paid 9,700 with free oil changes for life...that's pretty fair. I don't think we could have really gotten down to 9,200 anywhere else because they were already listed in the 11,000+ range.

the previous car was kinda junky. It worked well enough, but was a lot of work.

I actually had to use 5w40 because the piston rings were so worn, the dash lights would randomly not work, and the rear was all scraped up from some car in a parking lot.

She's glad to have a new one.

Although this one needs a bit of R&R too.

1. New tires soon (the rear's have less than year of tread left), I always buy all 4 at once cus you can normally get a sweet deal like (buy 3, get the 4th free).
2. At least one tire is either unbalanced or has a broken belt but we didn't notice at the dealer, missed bargaining point *single tear*
3. Alignment is off, but we have the NTB 3 year plan that's transferable to new cars (so they said when we got it, we'll see...lol). We'll also have NTB inspect the suspension...and then take it to another mechanic for a second opinion lol!
4. 100,000 mile maintenance schedule is coming up.
5. They replaced the brakes, but they squeal. I gotta get in there with some brake-quiet goop.

Nothing major, just a lot of little things.

MY corolla is a 2000 and STILL running strong at 155,000 miles. I should probably put some money into suspension work though, it's getting a little rowdy on the road, lol. Maybe I'll invade my parents' garage this summer ;-D
