Setting up the 150....oy vey

I bought my 150 3 weeks ago!! It's still sitting on my floor in my living room!
The floor supports are going to cost around $200, then the powerhead is about $150. That's not even including the fact that I have to build a sump.

Ergh! That must be so frustrating! Just keep happy thoughts of aquascaping and fish stocking ideas.

Yeah....except I have to think about the dent in my bank account...
The tank is pretty much fully stocked, so I really don't have to worry about that. It's the powerhead that's really killing me.

I totally know the feeling. I just set up my 120 last weekend, and just renting the Uhaul to transport it was $100. Not to mention that I had a blond moment when I assembled the filter and ended up flooding my living room when I turned on my canister filter. I hope you have better luck putting everything together than I did. I admire the fact that you are building your own sump. I thought about doing that as well, but since I am not handy at all and I can't even put a dang filter together correctly, I decided against it. Your fish are gonna love the tank once you get it set up though, so it will be worth all the hard work

I don't understand; what kind of "floor supports" are you going to use? If you need to brace the floor under the tank a couple of pole jacks in the basement should certainly be sufficient.
What kind of powerhead costs $150?

It is pole jacks that are going down there....and I need a Mag 18 to fully circulate my tank, and they're SO expensive!

You're figuring on turning over the tank volume 10x/hour (mag 18 = 1500 GPH)? Why do you want that much flow?

Because I have 2 Oscars, 1 common pleco & am planning on JD's. The bioload is going to be unbelievable.

Nice tank upgrade Amanda You're definitely right about the bioload on that stock list. It'll be a great, slow-looking, beast tank over time though.

Can I just say that I have the BEST boyfriend in the world?!
I was in the city last night for a conference of Phi Theta Kappa - and when I finally got home - Joe had the 150 cleaned & up on the stand! It's HUGE!
So now I'm going out to buy 2 jacks tonight or tomorrow - then I have to shop-vac the Eco-Complete out of the tank that's sitting in the bottom from the old owner. I still have to get a powerhead though...
That's the only thing holding me up at the monent...the price of the pump.

That was so sweet of him! Yes, you can say you have the best boyfriend in the world. I'd say he deserves the title.

You'll get your powerhead. The bad thing about big tanks is it's expensive to get them set up, but they're definitely worth it in the end.

Are you going to use the Eco? It can be reused and it is awfully expensive to replace in a tank that size! Your a few hundred closer to a planted tank that way!

It's just a dry layer on the bottom, just enough to make the tank dirty. But not enough to plant a tank.

So, even though I now have the gravel...I've been SO busy I haven't been able to work on the tank!
The pump is coming next week found it on CL for $80.
And then I may have to pay Shawnie a visit...

So just an update on the 150 -
Joe built me a solid wooden stand, so I don't have to worry about the tank being tipsy on an iron stand.
The tank is up on the stand with 100 lbs. of gravel inside & about an inch of water in it. I'm STILL waiting on the pump from CL, starting to get a little worried.
We're both watching a million videos on how to build a wet/dry, so hopefully that will go smoothly whenever I recieve the pump.
The floor jacks are in place as well, so it's full steam ahead once I learn how to build the wet/dry.

So I just bought a 90L rubbermaid for the Sump..it's shallow & long. (Got it for $3 because the handles are broken off!) Then I have the actual wet/dry filter that I got for FREE with the 110 that I also got for free (had a leak, gave it to my ex for his lizard) & my b/f is going to use that as the actual filter. I also recieved the MAG18 pump today, so the sump is going to be put together soon!
I'm also sitting here rinsing bio-balls & boiling driftwood. Yummy!
