The tank is FILLED!
Still no fish in it...but it was getting too late last night to finish. My 55 is half drained, still has the canister filter attached. I will be removing the Canister from the 55 & instantly cycling my 150 with it (it's rated for up to 265 gal.)
I will also be hooking up my sump & cycling that with the Canister filter.
The bad news:
My parrot is looking pretty bad - she was fine last night, but this morning her fins are raggedy, and her gills look like they are literally deteiorating right before my eyes. I also had one casulty - a baby Con that survived the last spawn! I didn't even know it was in there, but it got removed with some decor & I didn't see him in my tub until about an hour later.

Congrads on the tank being filled but that sucks about your fish. Hopefully everything else goes smoothly for you.

Congratulations on getting the tank filled! We're excited for you!

I'm sorry you lost one of your baby cons. I hope your BP gets back to feeling well again.

I have to unhook the Canister off my 55, and hook it up to the 150. That should instantly cycle the tank, and I can then add the fish.
My question - should I add them all at once? Or should I just add the large ones (Oscars, pleco & Firemouth) thena add the others in a few days?

Best to move them all in at the same time.

No one thinks that it will overload the filter...I guess it makes sense...it's already been filtering them all in the 55, this should be a lot easier with all the extra water.

i agree. i dont think it would bump you into a mini cycle. Are you transfering your deco from the 55g to the 150?
Tony G. is offline
Old December 4th, 2009
Fish Master

No, none of the substrate or deco is going into the 150.

are you gonna put it nylon or something to keep it in the tank for a while? that way you can be absolutely positive you wont go into a mini cycle..

No, it's sand & there's 60 lbs. of it, so it's not possible to transfer into the 150 (where there's 100 lbs. of pea gravel).
The 55 is solid green right now, so nothing is being transferred. The entire tank is being torn down & sold.

wow, ok then. Sounds good, you dont want to transfer any green water LOL

You might want to try a methylene blue dip for your fishies so you don't bring anything nasty over during transfer.

(oh, and pics, NOW, stop stalling!!!!)

I'm so glad you got everyone moved! They all look very happy and healthy. Beautiful fish. Your male striped con looks huge compared to that female striped. How big is he?

I LOVE your oscars! They're gorgeous!
