So I started a 10 gallon freshwater tank about 9 months ago.
I started with 1M/3F (4) Guppies 1M/3F (4) Swordtails and a Red Tailed shark.
4 Guppies reproduced into about 20 guppies now, with the help of an additional 4 males - all purchased at the same store at random times that were very different colors.. Each group of babies born looks cooler and cooler.
3 of the female Swordtails died since - one giving birth to many many babies. One survived. I let survival of the fittest run the tank.
The small ones are eaten if the bigger ones are hungry enough to catch it. Though, I do try to feed them 3 times a day to avoid this.
So we have 20 Guppies, 2 Swordtails M and F, and an RTS.
The tank is pretty calm most of the time. The male Swordtail sometimes bullies fish, but not often. The Red-Tailed Shark keeps to himself in a skull all day and only messes with the other fish when they eat.
Half the fish in the tank have been born there.
And now we've just added a male
betta to the mix.
So far, the Betta hangs out to himself and eats without anyone near him. Otherwise he bites at them.
When there is no food in the tank, he just keeps to himself.
I think the Betta is fine for the tank, right?
Also, he eats flakes and shrimp pellets let the rest of the fish. Is that okay?
For the record, I do a 50%
water change every week and clean the tank thoroughly. So its not overpopulated.
Also, I plan on giving the red-tailed shark to someone else soon, because I know hes getting too big for the tank. He's about 2.5".
Is there anything cool I can replace him with?
Thanks,
Robz
