| Quitting Smoking This is not fish related, but I was wondering how many people on here have quit - or - are quitting smoking.
For me ( this time ) it has been 17 days so far.
I am using patches, and for the most part it has been ok, but today has been a real bear!!!
On three seperate occasions, I have quit for over a year, but always started up again.
This time feels alot different, because this time I really want to quit, but " It aint easy ".
Now that I've ranted a little bit, I feel better.......

| My girlfriend and I quit....maybe a month ago? I don't know exactly cause I'm not counting the days - what's the point?
We quit by stopping smoking - no gum, no patches - just good old fashion will power.
Good luck to you, it's tough. |

| Best of luck Boris! I've cut my smoking in half by not smoking in the house. I'm stopping a little at a time. I still smoke too much but at least I'm under a pack a day now.

| congrats boris!!!!!!!!
other than childbirth, I think this is one of the most difficult things to do in life...Im very proud you are attempting to do it again...not giving up and finding the willpower to do this, is something you should take pride in!!!!! your life and people in your life will benefit from this as you know, as well as your wallet!!!!!!!! GREAT JOB~!! you can do it if you are wanting too and not if others are telling you too...KEEP UP THE WILLPOWER~(and no im not a non smoking critic...I actually am a smoker and wish I had the strength to attempt quitting again!) |

| Congratz Boris I hope you keep it up as well as the others! I too used to be a smoker started during the beginning of high school and I have quit many times and came back. Now I haven't smoked ciggs in awhile but ever once in awhile when I go out drinking I have one or two. So I guess it's not really quitting. What kind of helped was smoking ciggs that I didn't like therefore I didn't smoke as much. Such as GPC general public ciggs that sell for so cheap, but it is nasty. I like davidoffs and camels but once going down a class it made me smoke less. |

| Good evening.
One of the main reasons I stopped smoking in my house (years ago) is because of my fish and my cat Gabby, not to mention the nicotine that it leaves on everything. Too, I'm sure my lungs appreciate it some. It's so nice to clean the house and not have my dust rags yellow. The way I see it, if you're smoking in your house around your tanks and other animals then they are smoking too. JMO It's not fair to them because they don't have a choice. As for children at least they can fuss about it! lol I'm not a fanatic about others smoking in my house. Most of my friends are a good bit older than I am, if they want to light up, have at it. I do open windows weather permitting and I have an air filter I turn on. Just about all of them know I don't smoke in the house and they'll step out on the porch most of the time.
I know it isn't easy to quit. The longest I've quit was for 6 months and I started back while at a pub on New Year's Eve.
Maybe next time! Hang in there Boris! I agree with a statement above, no need to count the days!

| I currently smoke 75+ smokes a day but I did hear a good suggestion that I will share.
Drop your cigarette money in a jar every day. Although you may not notice saving say $10 a day, you will notice the $300 dollars at the end of the month. Then go out and buy yourself something that you’ve always wanted but “thought” you couldn’t afford and would not have otherwise purchased. Like maybe a canister filter. Rewarding yourself this way may just help encourage you to stay away from smoking just one more month so you can buy something else you didn’t think you could afford.
Best of luck!!! |

| I quit about 8 months ago. Just stopped. I've quit so many times before that I can't count them, but this last time it felt different. I wanted to quit, and I didn't look back. Haven't even missed them. I think you describing that this time it feels different is exactly what I experienced, and will be what gets you through. It's time. Be confident - you can do this. And stop telling yourself that it's hard, try telling yourself how easy it is.
Remember: Whether you think you can or you can't - you're probably right.
All the best with it |

Ken | It's funny the difference people notice once they stop smoking indoors. When the passed the law in Washington banning smoking in all public buildings all my friends who smoked first complained, then immediately realized the difference when we'd go out to bars. Now all my friends who smoke can't believe that they used to smoke inside. Just think, you used to be able to smoke in hospitals!!
Also your friends smoking inside at your house shows the difference between old generation smokers and new generation smokers. My smoking friends wouldn't even think of lighting up in another person's house or car even if the owner smoked...
Now if we could just get smokers to stop throwing cigarettes butts out of their cars.... |

| I agree about not throwing cigarette butts out of car windows. Here in SC you can be fined for littering if you're caught. I don't throw mine on the ground either. I will extinguish the flame and put the butt in my pocket. I can get a carton of Marlboro lights for $38.00.

| I just turned 25 and I've been smoking for 4 years. I grew up hating these things and was disgusted with the smoke, but here I am, smoking. I've tried to quit several times, but always restart the habit. I have no idea how it affect the tank, since I only smoke in the bedroom, there's a tank in here. One day, maybe I will quit, altho I do want to, I just have to really try harder.
I used to work at Target for a year and I would go to work at 3:30 or 4am and not be able to smoke until 8am. They don't let us out the building, even during break. That whole year, I worked for 4 hours without taking a break then take one as soon the doors opened. Since we can have two 15 minute breaks, I can take one for 30 minute. |

| Dozey: I'd like to point out that you spend my entire annual income on cigarettes...wow.
I'm soooo glad I never started. Perhaps I was lucky to have friends who didn't smoke either. It seems that's a HUGE factor in being able to quit. I know a lot of people at work that are trying to quit, but can't because their entire group of friends smokes, so they're the "odd man out." (they're all 18-25 too)
Plus, my parents are lifetime smokers and it's pretty gross (no offense to you lifetime smokers...) If only teenagers could see what I see...a couple of 40 something's hacking and wheezing as they try to laugh at something on TV. *sigh* |

| I smoked for over 25 years, tired to quit several times, but always started again. A couple years ago my doctor hooked me up with a prescription for Chantix. It blocks the nicotine receptors in the brain, so you don't get any satisfaction from smoking. After about 3 weeks I was able to quit (the habit was easier to lose when there wasn't any "point" in smoking) and only took the pills for 6 weeks. The pills/program is designed to go 3 months, but I didn't need the pills to keep from starting again after I quit. Aside from all the money I'm no longer spending on cigarettes, I can breathe easier and the "smokers cough" has long since disappeared. I also notice that I don't get colds or sinus infections as often since I quit. There's no way I'd start again now. |

| You have to REALLY WANT IT. If you feel the need to finish your carton or pack first, you're not ready. |
