So earlier in the year my son decided he wanted to play football this year. We sign him up and he says hey you should be a coach. So I sign up to be a coach, just to sort of help out. Long story short our club has 2 pee wee teams this year and needed another head coach, so whitout thinking I say sure I will do it. (keep in mind I haven't coached since I was in Guam in the early 90's)
We have 30 kids on our team with 22 of them being first year kids for football, so the beginning of the year was interesting. My son loves it he has been playing devensive end and linebacker. This past Sunday was our 6th game, we play 8 for the year. About 5 minutes into the 4th quarter he tackled a kid and they hit helmet to helmet. He was a bit slow getting up but didn't need the trainer but he did come off the field sat down with the trainer and starting crying his head hurt real bad. I got lucky with picking other coaches as I have a nurse as my trainer and another coach is a fire fighter. So the trainer starts asking Malachi questions and he has no idea where he is or what is going on. The trainer says I think Malachi has a concussion wheres Amber(mom) we should take his to childrens. So One of my kids who couldn't play this week runs around the field to get Amber and the trainer starts walking Malachi around the field to help Amber get him in the car and on their way. I am still on the sideline coaching and I see them walking and then I see the trainer lay Malachi down in the grass on the other side of the field. So I leave the game and run over and he is freaking out. He told the trainer he couldn't walk anymore, his head is hurting more and more. He doen't know what is going on, doesn't have a clue who me and Amber are, so they call the ambulance.
He is fine now, says his head hurts from time to time, Er
DOC says he has a concussion and no football or anything else for 2-3 weeks minimum. He was a little mad at me when I told him he couldn't play anymore, but now he is fine and looking forward to next year. A bit scary, and of course my 4 year old when the paramedics get there and start looking at him, she was fine up to this point, she starts crying and says daddy is Malachi going to die. One of the other moms took her and kept her busy when she heard her, so thank God for that. So anyway he is fine, and I have had enough excitment for awhile.
