Electrocution

My fish are so resilient its crazy. Two nights ago I was chatting with a friend when all of a sudden I hear snap crackle pop and catch a quick flash of light from the corner of my eye. Sure enough I have blown out yet another heater. Luckily most everyone survived, all fish accounted for but it looks like I lost a handful of MTS ;/ .

I am a smart girl though and had a back up heater on hand for just such an occasion. I acclimated it for about 20 min then turned it on see that its working and go to bed. When I woke up I checked the temp before heading out to work and about had a heart attack. It was 90 degrees and the thermostat was set to 78. I turned the thermostat on it down to 68 it turned off for about 3 min and then flickered back on. Hauled that heater out and tossed it.

Everyone still seems to be doing ok today, fins all up and happy and eating just fine thank god. Running my T5 lights 24/7 right now until I can afford to order another heater on Tuesday I am going to have such an algae problem lol

Now I need to find a heater that I cant kill...

I was checking out a ViaAqua Titanium Tube Heater. Does anyone have any experience with it? Sounds like it might be more durable than the glass heaters that I've been killing and I like the idea that it has a remote thermostat.

What a terrible accident! Good luck with the heater choice I think that one is reliable.

wow! Thank goodness they're all alright. I don't really keep heaters in my tank because my country is already such a hot country! But I'm sure another member who has better experience at the type of heater you're looking for will come by. Good luck!

I took my heater out for the summer since it was overheating my tank. It was a timed heater not an automatic and even without a heater it still almost reaches ninety when I come home. It's a good thing I have like four water bottles in the freezer.

Usually(for me) good looking packaging and not so good looking prices are the good products. I bought a heater for 30$ but haven't tried it out yet. The temp is still too high over here. Good Luck once again!

Hello Brimstone Hate to hear about your heater issues. I'm glad your fish are all doing well. I use the Visi-Therm Stealth Heaters in my tanks and I've never had any problem with them. http://www.drsfostersmith.com/produc...m?pcatid=12060
Too, if you'll check the "reviews" section of the forum there is information there that might help you to make a decision as to which one would be best for you and your tank.
Best wishes!
