I really am a crazy fish lady now

LOL, i think you will all appreciate how i spent my saturday. its a bit of a story, but a good one.

i am a member on a winnipeg fish forum. a guy had posted about needing to sell his tanks because he is moving across the country. he posted a few times bumping it up and rather desperately sunday morning. i dont have the money or space to have more large tanks, but i emailed him and said look, if you cant sell them, and just need them gone, i will come get them.

he emailed me back. right away. told me that if i came down and tore down all 3 tanks, dealt with the fish etc i could have the smaller two tanks. they look about 45 and 35 gallons. someone was coming to look at the bigger one (90 gallons) and if they took that i could help them and if not i could help him load that one onto the truck.

i said i will be right there.

these tanks were really really really dirty. ten billion guppies in a tank he has never cleaned. ever. *barf* scooped out all the guppies and drained the tank. thank god he had a python that i could just throw over the balcony. tore down that tank and i got to have it. all the equipment that was with it and the fish.

then i did the 90- gallon. there was a gorgeous discus in there that i ALMOST got to keep. 6 plecos...it was a disgusting mess too. 4 sponge filters that had never been rinsed. *gag* the water was thick and black from me moving things. tore that all down and the guy bought it along with the discus.

then on to the 45. scooped out all the fish. countless fancy guppies, an albino bristlenose pleco and another pleco. there were 4 more huge plecos but someone else helping him pack took them. i do not have room for those guys, would have had to sold them right away.

so i came home with 100's of gorgeous fancy guppies, 2 small adorable plecos, 2 tanks, two stands for them, hoods, lights, air pumps galore, filters and everything. i intend to sell a bunch of the guppies and clean up the equipment and sell them too.

5 hours hard labour. covered in fish poo water. probably $1000 worth of stuff in my van by the end of it.

ya. crazy fish lady. i spent my saturday cleaning a strangers tanks. LOL

And don't forget the most important thing you did: You improved many fish's lives

Can't wait for the pics of the new tanks.

WOW... I'm right there with you! I would totally have done that
I've never been one for Guppies so I haven't got a clue what I would have done with all the little guys... GOOD LUCK!

What a great person you are. That seller obviously needed your help.... So if the tanks & sponge filters had never been cleaned - how in the world did the fish survive? He definitely did not need to have the aquariums he got rid of. Hope to see some great pictures from you soon!

i have no idea how the guppies survived. he said he stopped cleaning it and they started breeding like mad. the sides of the tank are going to be murder to scrape clean.

the 45 didnt look that bad at first, but it was undergravel filters and man, when it started draining *barf*

the 90, i have no idea how that poor discus survived. i really wish that the guy didnt buy it. this was his first tank and he knows nothing of fish. i doubt that that beauty will make it.

i will take some pics of the guppies soon, they are beautiful
