| Computer issues....venting just a bit I have to let this out or I will just explode. I have been dealing with computer program issues on my work PC for over a week now. I have tried all of the usual fix it methods...rebooting, restoring to a previous date...
After somehow deleting my sound card and a few other things I needed, that I am not really sure that I did, I find out somebody had turned off my virus protection. There were only 5 viruses on my PC... why. What do these people get outta this. There are really bored outta there mind people out there that actually make viruses to harm our computers. I have no clue as to why these people do this and I have tried to figure it out many, many times. The things that I would like to do to these lovely people would get me put in jail and they would get off scot free or be 6 foot under. I use my PC daily for work and it is a must have for my job. Over the past 12 or so years while doing my job as a medical transcriptionist I have lost 3 computers to viruses or worms...they do sometimes get past your virus protection. Now it looks like I get to add number 4 to the list if my computer guy can't get something done. I did actually get the viruses removed myself and get the sound card up and running again but something is still waaay off. So an expert in that field is going to get the job done hopefully. I just wish somebody could explain to me what makes a person who makes viruses or worms tick...what exactly do they get out of this. They cannot seem me pulling out my hair or threatening to throw anything related to a computer out the window. I do not understand and yes I am frustrated, confused, dreading setting up my computer all over again or a new one for that matter, and just downright mad. So thank you for listening and letting me get that out even though I know there are no answers to those questions. |

I don't rank myself as stupid but I do not have the intelligence that it takes to write computer programs. I know that if I did I could find a lot better things to do with my time than torment people. Thanks for "listening". Quote:

Remember, we're not responsible for the actions of ignorant people and Karma will visit them-I know this, she lives in my room and she told me
Hang in there, it'll get better. |

| My best friend lost everything on her laptop a few weeks ago due to a virus. I don't know what she had but it was deleting various bits and pieces on her computer until she couldn't even turn the thing on. The worst of it is that it got onto her external hard-drive as well and she lost everything.
HUGS for you. |

| So sorry Sherry. I honestly don't know why people do awful things...My theory has always been this..
Ya know when a kid isn't getting enough attention at home they often act out because negative attention is better then no attention at all. I think these virus makers are on the same wavelength. They are very smart and have incredible ablility, They can't get attention any other way but if they create a virus that gets brought into the public eye and is talked about then they have accomplished something and gained attention. Kinda like BTK (don't know if you have heard of him) but it happened in Wichita 70 miles away from my town. Same kinda deal. Just wanted attention good or bad. |

| most of the viruses actually come from russian teenagers. They're heralded as hometown heroes when they make a big virus that damages the "western" infrastructure.
I don't understand why they don't put their genius toward making legitimate products and making lots of money...I guess the cheap thrill is more important.
...I have to wonder if American teens would do the same thing if they weren't already consumed by xbox and facebook. |

| Oh sherry! i know how you feel. i lost my laptop to a trojan virus. I had to re install the antivirus, and installed 3 other santiviruses and a booster shot to remove the virus. It worked, but it was so messed up. It somehow messed up my webcam too.
The BEST antivirus out there atm, is NORTON 360 ANTIVIRUS
it has been really working for me it does automatic updates, and removes all viruses, worms, hackers automaitcally |

| Oh I have used Norton's and a trojan got past it once and a worm the second time. This time I had AVG and it got past that. My next version will be the version from UAB Hospital and we will just have to see how that goes. The only thing that bothers me about that is that I am behind UABs firewalls the entire time I am online and they still get through. |

I find Norton very safe and trustworthy.. |

Oh and this one won't cost me anything unlike all the others. |

| I think today those hackers will be considered terrorists. I know what you're going through. We've lost a few computers to worms, viruses over the years. As frustrating as it is it's always nice to get a new one
I'm a firm believer in "backing up" everything that I hold dear that is stored on my computer. All of my book marks were deleted by accident recently. Luckily I was able to restore them. I have them all on a back up disk now. I'm not a computer whiz by any means but I'm not afraid to point and click to find my way around.
Take care SW!

Ken | I am also a firm believer in "backing up" everything. Something about losing all your pics, files, and anything you have stored on there just one time will teach you that lesson. I have all of my important stuff backed up it is just all of the programs I have to use have to be redownloaded and reinstalled....it can be done it is just a royal pain. I do have all of my work templates, macros, and autocorrect saved to disk unlike the first time so that will just be click and install. Oh I never ever claimed to be a computer whiz and I never will but I do know there is a help button on most every program you have now. I have a good bit stored on my laptop and really most of my programs...I would just have to install templates, macros, and autocorrect...and a normal sized keyboard and regular mouse!!! There is no way I could type on a laptop keyboard all day. |
