| Why Traffic tickets suck... Instead of spending 320 on a ticket I could...
1) Have two of these.
2)Or even better get 1 and This
3) OR I COULD GET THIS!!!
... but instead I'll be paying the traffic ticket *mumble*redlight*mumble*camera's*mumble |

| Ouch I know that blows. I heard they will be putting them around here too. The city already have some but they don't use them for traffic violations they use them to see how is the flow on the main roads. |

Lol I remember running it but it was like a month ago they just sent the ticket now. I was going along and was like six feet from the stop line when the light changed... didn't have time to stop so figured I may as well keep going. Apparently that was the wrong decision. |

| the "good" thing is that it's easy to avoid, you didn't break traffic law by accident. You chose, on some level, to disobey...next time choose more wisely.
I'm from a town whose police force has nothing else but traffic to enforce. It's #1 in state for moving violations and DUI arrests. We all drive like grandmas (it's the passer throughs that get the tickets), never speed, never roll a stop, and always signal (yes, they will give you a ticket for not signaling.)
they'll often line 5 or 6 squad cars up along a stretch of road and have someone sit out in a lawnchair with a speed gun...then they just pass out speeding tickets like clockwork. |

| Um, go to court ask for the traffic school thing... I did that with my last ticket it only cost me 30$ and sitting in a 4 hour class one night. Then the judge ripped my ticket up. |

| Over here a speeding fine is four points on the liscense. 12 and you get it taken off you. I know this, my dad's a traffic cop, so he's the one handing out tickets and sitting in a deck chair LOL!
He's a motorbike rider though, and escorts people, so it's better IMO
Subsequently: HORSE DRAWN CART? NOOO! |

| My brother is the one with the speeding tickets
The cops have never caught me at it.
ABCDemily: I want that cart. I've got a mare I'm "attempting" to train and the cart I have is a massive home-made contraption that my neighbour made and left sitting in the bush for like 10 years. |

The Twin Cities used to be really good about signaling, but as the Cities have grown (people moving from other areas of the country because our economy was going particularly well prior to the recession), we've kind of lost the idea of "Minnesota Nice," particularly among our drivers.
I also wish that I lived by Red. Minneapolis put the traffic cams in a few intersections that were particularly notorious as being dangerous for pedestrians that followed the signals (you shouldn't have to be afraid for your life when you're crossing during a "walk" signal.) Unfortunately, the MN Supreme Court overturned a number of the tickets on the grounds that there was no proof of the person who was driving the car, so those intersections aren't monitored anymore and pedestrians have gone back to being terrified of crossing the street. It sure was nice the month that those cameras were working, though.
It does suck that there are other things you could be doing with that money, though.
I've had a few parking tickets and have thought "Geez, I wish I hadn't parked there. I could be playing a new video game this weekend." Last edited by sirdarksol; August 7th, 2009 at 01:44 PM.

| Hehehe, Sirdarksol I don't know if you'd wanna live near me. We're population that's mostly rural, which means you learn how to drive in a town with 1 stop sign, and how to drive for hours on a highway with nothing but fields as far was the eye can see. I love saskatchewan but it doesn't grow the best city drivers |

The Twin Cities, Duluth, and a few other areas are fully urban, but if you travel half an hour (sometimes less), you end up on highways where you'll see nothing but corn (or wheat, or soy, or grasslands) for another half hour or more. There are plenty of little one-stop towns, too. |

| One day I was driving home from work, and they set up a check point and were checking to see if people were wearing their seatbelts. When I stopped for the officer and put my window down he said "Okay, we were just checking to make sure you are wearing a seat belt". I answered "Of course I am, I drive like a maniac".
But I just got tagged last week for "following to closely". Only $74.00, and I think I won't get any points since it was out of state.
Sadly, with the economy being so bad, and the federal government cutting back on funding to the states, you are going to see more "traffic enforcement" to try and increase municipal revenues.
About a month ago, I got a ticket in the mail for having my "lawn clippings" out early. It wasn't my lawn clippings that were out, but the trash from my kitchen trash can that the trash men decided not to take. But the "Code Enforcement Officer" didn't know if they belonged to me or my neighbor, so he mailed us both a ticket. I had to take half a day of work to fight it in court (and I won) but it's getting ridiculous. |

| That is nuts. Over here the cops get their motocycles and set up a speed trap. They hide behind a brush or trees and the other cop is on a unmarked vehicle waiting for the call. During the last year summer they were getting on a construction area on I95 and they set up their radar gun on a tripod and put it on the ground. The guy on the radar got dressed with civilian clothes put a construction vest and hard hat and you couldn't tell and a little farther down the road they pull u over. Of course double fine and they didn't care if you were a mile or two over. |

| The favorite response I've heard when someone says "I was only going x miles over the speed limit" is "You know, I kind of agree with you, but it's my job to enforce the laws, and the sign you just passed doesn't say 'speed guideline,' it says 'speed limit.'"
Like Tavel said, it's our decision whether or not we break the law. In doing so, we put ourselves and others at risk. If we break a law, I think it's best to just own up to it, admit we made a mistake, and try to learn from that mistake. |

| I once got two speeding tickets in the same week. I was 17, now 27 . Both were crazy circumstances. Those have been the only speeding tickets and only tickets in general I have ever had. Geeze..I guess it's just bad luck. Our town is very small as well and the cops are VERY good at passing out tickets like candy. |

| Ive had 3 tickets in 44 years of driving. #1 was a warning ticket. #2 a cop backed into me...it was dropped and over very quickly. #3 i was driving and very, very tired...good ticket and paid a fine, then wrote a letter thanking the cop...i had 3 more hours to go and honestly would not have made it without his wake-up ticket and directions to coffee!!! |
