i woke up late and bleary eyed...stumbled around turning on tank lights and doing a bit of a head count. i discovered FRY in my 25 gallon tank.
i didnt even know the swordtail was pregnant again! she didnt look it!!
i saw one in the tank and thought that it must have happened overnight and they made for a midnight snack. this tank isnt planted as heavily as my 55 gallon so there arent as many hiding spots.
i scooped one...then two...mama goes swimming by and drops another! i watched her drop several. it was fascinating. the long finned rosy barbs caught on fast and were following her everywhere. i saw several become breakfast.
i put the couple i had caught already into my nursery tank on the small side with the platys. and came back to search for more and watch her.
i have 4 two week old baby platys on the small side and 6 three month old toddler swordtails.
the platys are big enough to chase the new fry.
in the end i had caught 8 fry and put them in the nursery. i moved the swordtail toddlers into the 25 gallon tank back with their mom, moved the platys over to the larger side and have the wee fry on the small side.
im really excited that the swordtails are in the big tank now. these were our first fish babies ever.
here is the tank with them back 'home'
