I hate my house

Ever since my wife and I moved in, we've found a constant string of things that were just done wrong. We've found exposed sections of electrical wiring hanging from the ceiling (got that replaced pretty quickly), a section of wiring that goes from 12ga to 16ga back to 12ga (That piece of wire unfortunately travels up through floorboards and then across a stud, so it would be impossible to replace without ripping out some drywall), our outside faucets don't have cutoff valves on the inside (a big problem in MN), and a whole bunch of projects were done really poorly.
I just started trying to remodel the bathroom, and have discovered that drywall behind the sink is anything but dry, and the floorboards have been exposed to years of water. The sink was poorly hooked up the first time, and the materials are extremely outdated and corroded, making the job much more difficult than it first appeared to be. I am not looking forward to this. I can't imagine what the walls behind the bathtub/shower are going to look like.

Oh, I'm so sorry.
It's so disheartening when you've put your hard earned money into something only to find so many things wrongs.
In years to come, after you've gotten things straightened out, these things will be just a memory.

I COMPLETELY know how you feel. I too just moved into a house, and everything the previous owners did cut corners. My basement is completely flooded. The furnace has to be replaced. The electrical wiring has to be updated. The upstairs bathroom doesn't work. It stinks. Hope the best for you.

Don't be nervous!! But DO NOT just jump into it. Get those inspecters out there and look at every inch of that house. Don't leave anything out! If you see ANYTHING that looks fishy, talk to the seller & realtor.

My realtor is a father and son that i have known for YEARS. I've looked at 43 houses so far and only found two that I really liked. I have bids in for them - so we will see what happens.

I'm so glad I rent, I don't have time for that.

Update:
I am currently tearing the mortar out of the floor. I have no toilet, no sink, and no working bathtub right now (the last really bites, since I am now covered in mortar dust ). I might get to start connecting stuff tomorrow night, after I get a proper underlayment down on the ground.

If I pass you on the road, I'll know to walk the other way
Hope you're able to get that underlayment down tomorrow. Good luck.

Update the second:
So my old bathtub was cast iron... Anyone know how heavy a cast iron tub is? I don't. I know that my brother in law can barely budge it, and I've seen him move some really, really heavy stuff.
So what do we do when we've got something too heavy to move?

We smash the heck out of it. He's been having a ton of fun whaling on the thing, and by tomorrow we should have it in around a thousand or so pieces.

Depending on size - 300 pounds minimum

You put wheels on it - or hire someone who has a bulldozer to come and lift it out...

It's too bad you had to break it up to get it out. It would have made an interesting water feature.....

did you at least sell it for scrap? 300lbs of iron has to be worth something, right?

The tub itself was probably an antique and could've brought in some $$$ if kept in tact. Can still get something out of the scrap iron though...
How old is this house you bought

, I hope you get everything sorted. We had a similiar episode with our bathroom. It's directly above our utility/shower room, theres a leaky pipe inbetween the floorboards.
I have a bath, water leaks from the tap, and we have a nice pool of water in between our ceiling. Luckily we had the ceiling re-done, nbut we still have water leaking onto our washing machine

I hope everything works out for you. Bathrooms really suck at not being waterproof.

The tub wasn't an antique. It wasn't a clawfoot or anything like that. It was just a typical 1970's 13" deep cast iron tub. Every house in the area had one. The tub was actually the reason that my wife and I wanted to redo the bathroom. It's really hard to soak in a 13" deep bathtub.

Hiring someone wasn't an option (running short on cash), and wheels would have been nearly useless as my house is a maze of narrow hallways and sharp corners. Both good ideas, they just wouldn't work very well in my house.
To add to the problems, we found out that the walls had actually been built around the tub, making it even more difficult to remove. However, it is now smashed and in my garage.

Congrats on getting it moved. My bed was actually built in my bedroom so I know how it is. My bed will never leave my bedroom in one piece...
