| Craigs list wish Ok, I have not had the best of luck, or ANY luck for that matter with craigslist. I emailed about this attachment, I really really hope I hear back. It's my dream tank and I'm going have serious issues if I don't get a 20 gallon long real soon. http://newhaven.craigslist.org/for/1190061100.html

| If it doesn't work out...Petco has/had 20 longs for 39.00....but doesn't include the other stuff....catch them on a sale and you might end up coming pretty close to the crais list price...or...check Freecycle in your are. You can post an add saying "wanted"...sure works for me.....went from one tank to 5 in a week!!! |

| Good luck. I hope you hear from them soon, I know you've been wanting one.
I like the looks of the 20 long more than regular 20. |

| Petsmart does have them at 31.99 regular price-but of course this doesn't come with anything. Man, I don't even know if it comes with the hood.
Funny, never even thought of posting "looking for" on craigslist.
I will probably bite the bullet and get one at Petsmart tomorrow. I'll probably hold off on the filter until I know exactly what I want.
THEN the dilema is where am I gonna "hide" it until I'm ready to set it up. I've got until tomorrow to decide.

| I'd suggest an Aquaclear 50 for a HOB. If you'd rather have a canister, the Fluval 205 would be great. |

| Thank you for the suggestion. All I know at the moment is that the tank will be heavy aquascaped/planted; so I'm sure this will have an effect on the decision of filter usage. |

| wohooooooo!!! guess who just emailed me the elusive 20 gal long tank owner who posted on craigslist.
tank with hood and heater. i checked at petsmart today, the 20 long there for 32. doesn't come with the hood or anything. so this will work out well i hope.
the owner wants to toss in a wooden stand as well but i havent use for it. unless.... i take it in case there is another tank in the horizon (??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?)

| Take the stand if there is no extra fee! Stand are one of the most expensive pieces of equipment! |

| I totally agree. The stand for the 20 long will hold a 29 gallon nicely if you aren't going to use it for the 20. |

Next step is to figure out where I'm going to stash this until I can set it up.
Anyone have an empty corner it can hide out for a spell?

| LOL You could hide it in your linen closet. Just bury it with sheets or towels or whatever is in there. Or you could hide it someplace in your house where hubby never goes. Then again I have heard of hiding in plain sight. Just a few options. Too far away from you or I would definitely hide it for ya.
I looked on Craigslist for my area yesterday. There is somebody on there that is getting rid of 20+ tanks from 10 gal up prices ranging from $10-$25 and said they have to be gone by Friday the 29th. Last edited by SWilkins; May 28th, 2009 at 11:28 AM.

| I have plenty of spaces to hide it, problem is getting it in the house when he's not home. The car is out in plain sight-can't leave it in the car until he disappears. I'll figure something out.
Just found someone on craigslist selling, i think its six tanks-two of which are 20 long...... this seller is much much much closer to where i live. wonder if i'll hear back.
SWILKINS: you going to check out those tanks?

I really lucked out... my husband is just as bad as I am and we are each other's biggest enablers! What we have now is the result of us downsizing when we moved in together- LOL!!! |

| o, the goon will bring home all kinds of rocks and driftwood (from the beach) and i ask where he thinks im gonna put all of it. so he shouldnt be surprised when he sees a new tank suddenly.
he has actually started getting into the 10 gal which is very close to us where we hang out in the kitch. a betta and a couple platies. plus, he has that male mentality of wanting to see big mean fishies. that parts not gonna happen.
im happy with the peaceful communities i have. and the dogs LOVE the tanks so..... |

Beth | Well I am trying not to...but I did email it to my hubby (main enabler) so we shall see. LOL.
Harpua2002...Hubby has just recently caught the bug. He likes to fix up tanks set them up and all that kind of thing. He also enjoys the fish a great deal. I do the maintenance as far as cleaning and water checks and all go. He is one of those that is hooked but won't admit it....must be why he keeps bringing me more tanks and stuff. Not complaining here though I love my enabler! |

| Kind of funny update to this situation:
I still haven't acquired either tank and i'm so frustrated waiting for replies.
Also, feeling.....maybe it's guilt (?) cause want this tank and im kinda doing it underhanded by not revealing that i have these plans for a new tank.
So anyway, last night i had this crazy dream that there were fish floating around the house, not on the ground but in the air, like flying through the house. I had my b/f running around trying to catch these floating/flying fish and finding hidden fish tanks all over the house, in the closets, in corners, under the beds, etc...
Too funny.

Beth | Oh that is just too funny. Well you don't have either tank so you really have not done anything. One thing that got my hubby hooked was the angelfish. Many many years ago I had tried to keep one here and there in a community tank without any research so you know how that went. Anyway he loves them so once I got started with them he is always coming home with more tanks, heaters, filters, rocks, driftwood, plants....you get the idea. Try to find out his fav...he does not ever have to admit he is addicted but he will be. |

Thank you for the idea!!
He does like to make things that I might want for the tank, goes out of his way in fact. He also comes home with unlimited quantities of driftwood and rocks. So, maybe he's gettin' there. Giving him the opportunity to pick out the fish will be a great boost.

Beth | Hee hee. Glad I could help. That is about how it started with us but he just asked me one day why I didn't have any angelfish. I fixed that and I fell in love with them. Now he is always bringing stuff home for me for the fishes. We have loads of fun together with it now. Maybe it will work out as well for you especially since he likes to make things and comes home with all kinds of stuff already. Sounds like he is well on his way to MTS with the rest of us. |

| Well, Beth finally bit the bullet yesterday and purchased a 20 long from Petsmart for 31.99. It is presently in the basement of a girlfriend. I got sick and tired of depending on Craigslist. So now that I have it I am going to start planning tank hoods and filter. I would prefer not the standard hood that takes up 2.75 or more space above the tank. And an HOB filter/overfiltered tank. Also will investigate the ECO_____ substrate, I have heard people referring to it, I want to check it out because I know the tank will be planted. Other than that.......that's it I think.
Anyone have comments or suggestions?

| Eco Complete? It's great stuff. If you want a planted tank I would suggest PC or HO T5 lighting. The normal output flourescent lighting won't be adequate for many species of plants. I believe the lowest wattage PC strip light would use a 65W bulb. That would easily give you a nice medium light tank ( WPG "rule" is bogus IMO and breaks down over smaller tanks). HO T5s, on the other hand, put out WAY more light than comparable PC lights and would probably push you into high-light territory, and you would need CO2 and ferts to avoid an algae factory. JMO. |
