| Suggestions? I'm thinking about what kind of community tank I should establish. I can't make up my mind on an evenly mixed breed tank, or to try breeding an egglayer.I know if I did a mixed community they would be "tetras", and so if I try to raise and breed an egglayer fish in one tank,I don't know which ones are easy and which ones are really hard. Or if theres any difference at all. I'm open to all suggestions.
Heres a list of my favorites:
Red Serpae Tetra. *****
Blushing PrestellaTetra. *****
Painted Glass Tetra. ****
Glowlite Tetra. ***
White Tetra. ***
Red Phantom Tetra. ***
Red Eye Tetra. ** |

| If this is for your 10g, you don't really have enough room for a mixed tank of tetras.
Tetras are schooling fish and do better in groups of 5 or 6.
You could try 2 schoolers who are about the same size and shape and do like 3 of each. |

| I would avoid painted fish on moral grounds, as they are injected with colors inhumanely. To address your question, I would pick one school at around 5 or 6 fish. There isn't really enough swimming room for two schools. In my opinion, you could get a couple of bottom dwelling fish like 3 cory cats or a few khuli loaches. |

| I've just recently set up a 10g myself. In it I have 6 Endlers, live bearers. 6 Furcata Rainbows, egg layers. 8 red crystal shrimp and 4 Trap door Snails. It's all well planted and the fish are all under 1 1/2. The Endlers wont get any bigger then that. The tank is awesome looking and very active.
Just giving you some ideas here. Enjoy!!! |

| I was wondering Hwx, if you read the links provided in your other thread about the process of dyed (painted) fish: Question
Of course if you choose to support this practice, it's your decision. |

| Lucy I realize moderating is a full time job,but has anyone ever accused you of being unfair?
Thats what you are saying to me in your reply to my post "Suggestions".
Is there a way to defend myself before everyone starts an investigation into my threads and asks if I'm aware of this and that and the other thing, and that its an allowed practice by legal terms,as if I'm an agent of the protection of cruelty to animals society and not doing my job.
Lots of folks could care less about a practice thats legal and not legal AND the supporting of either.
Just because someone can't mind their own business I have to be victimized by someone who thinks they're a detective. And yes I read my stuff and if I choose to be pro or con its not someone elses business. If I'm breaking forum protocol here its because I notice alot of negativity. |

If you had read the links. Period.
Since you didn't comment in your other thread, how am I to know if you did or did not.
Maybe you also missed this: Quote: |

| So whats your question?
Yes I didn't comment because I just became aware that they are injected with dye and left it at that,so your question didn't seem like it was innocent,it sounded unfair and insulting.
The subject at hand is totally different than the previous post you failed to cite correctly, and I posted my favorite fish species not knowing if any of the profiles for them explained the process of fish dyes. :;innocent Last edited by Hwx; May 17th, 2009 at 06:44 PM.

| Nobodys asking you to defend your choices of fish. But frequently people are not aware of the cruel practices involved in painting/dyeing fish. we feel responsible for educating people and then letting them make their own decisions. Quote:

But you ARE being rude.

| FWIW
I want to be told about these kinds of issues, and issues about endangered wild fish that are caught and sold, and fishless cycling. Becoming aware of these issues and what choices I was really making and supporting with my hard earned money is the PRIMARY reason I joined this forum.
So, Lucy and the others, please continue to educate regarding these issues so that people make conscious choices. If I am ignorantly doing something which supports stupid and cruel practices, or I am making mistakes which are endangering my fish, or I am unknowingly contributing my $$ to the explotation and eradication of beautiful and rare creatures, TELL ME. |
