Bad Neighbors

Ok,
This has absolutely nothing to do with fish but I'm wanting your advice. My husband thinks I'm crazy, so I'm not counting his vote.

We have these neighbors, a young couple with a baby, who are trouble. Me and my husband have intervened before. They were out in their front yard beating the poo out of each other and we went over stopped things, police were called, not by us but other neighbors. The police have been over there a dozen times. They seem like nice enough people but drink to much and don't know how to control their temper. I had a long talk with the girl and explained how awful it was for her baby boy to see and hear this going on. She agreed. Well all this stopped for about 4 months now. We live in a great neighborhood, very family orientated in a small town. about 7-8 thousand people. My daughters private school is just half a block away. Well for the last week there has been a TON of traffic..not just a little but like 15 people in 30 min. going in and coming right back out. People walking, riding bikes, scooters, and driving. It's seriously ridiculous. I try very hard not to judge people based on appearance but the people coming and going are not "OK". I've had about 6 other neighbors come and talk to me about this and they have all reported it to the police. While lots of guest (traffic) isn't against the law I would think they would at least check it out, being close to a school and in a family neighborhood. But nope this continues to go on.

I'm a very peaceful, kind and gentle person but I've seriously had enough. This is MY neighborhood and MY children are growing up here. I will not allow this to go on right across from my home. Our front doors face each other. I would like to go over there and calmly and rationally explain to them that EVERYBODY knows what is going on, it's not ok. I'll just explain that they need to stop it or I will find someway to take care of it myself. I was a teenager once to so it's not like I'm completely innocent of all things evil but I have children now and I won't tolerate it.

I'm not worried about my safety, they are not dangerous but my husband thinks I should just mind my own business.. I try not to be nosey but this is different. What do you guys think??

Im glad our only neighbors are my husbands grandfather and parents. Then cow feilds for miles.
Honestly thats a scary situation because if something was going on in the house "drug related" then they could retaliate towards you. But at the same time putting a bug in the cops ear and making sure no one knows who said it would be a good idea. They could watch them.

The cops do know about it...All 6 of the other neighbors that have talked to me have called the police. I'm not too concerned with them retaliating against me either. I guess they could slit my tires or something but if it's makes them think twice about selling drugs in our neighborhood I'm ok with that..lol.

cesch...go to your mayors office...if the police havent checked it out, then somethings up..if this is all new, and not something thats been going on for awhile(ive always had a ton of company with all my kids and their friends and my friends) and you feel its in the negative, at least go higher up to have it checked out...dont go over there if you feel its dangerous , which I think you do or you would have already gone...alot of ppl have issues in a marriage, and you have explained them to the extreme....but you do have a right to feel safe, let your girls out without worrying, and know that at least things have been looked upon even if nothing is wrong..remember, you pay taxes, and have a right to feel safe..but at the same time, dont underestimate what drug or other things do to ppl...they arent the same when intoxicated..let the HIGHER authorities deal with it ....

I would not approach the neighbors. People on drugs are unstable and might harm you. Booze is a drug and affects a person's personality.
You say you aren't afraid of them, but I'm afraid for you.
They can do things that they might not ordinarily do when they aren't using and if they are selling, they are probably using something.
Even if they aren't using, they will do anything to protect their lifestyle and money from the sales...

If they are selling pot, it might make you think they are "mellow" and harmless,
but you can't be sure of that, especially if they have that temper you were talking about...

Hopefully the police are planning a "sting" to catch them. You don't want to be over when that goes down.
I can't imagine the cops letting this go on, especially after 6 neighbors have complained.

I'm sure you are a strong confident woman, but you could be creating a real nightmare by confronting them.
Booze, coke, pot, any of it, are mind altering drugs, which make people nutty...
You may wish they'd only sliced your tires.

Wait and see, and in the meantime, keep your kids safe. That's a shame we can't even let our kids out to play in our own neighborhoods.

Best of luck to you and your family,

I strongly believe you should stay away from those ppl. But I would also do anything in my power to keep the kids safe and call anyone of authority I could think of.'

Thanks guys..
I def know something is up. We have a lot of company too. Both our families are here in this town plus we grew up here so all our friends are here too..But this isn't that kind of company. One neighbor even saw the guy, outside in front of god and everybody, hand something threw the window of a van and then take money from them..He's not being to shy about it. This has been going on for about 2 weeks now. I know the cops are aware of them because they drive by checking them out all the time but won't do anything. I guess I'll NOT go over there..lol..I def don't want to cause me and my family any trouble and just hate the thought of that going on right across the street. Every time I see traffic I'll just call the police..Pretty soon they will do something about it because they will get tired of hearing from me...lol..My MIL is the head dispatcher at the police station..lol..Oh well.
Thanks guys..I just needed to get that off my chest. It's been driving me nuts.

HMMMM..I do have a thought...We own a bunch of apartments and these guys are renting the house..I could call the landlord and let him know what's going on...I know I'm always thankful when someone lets us know if our tenants are causing trouble..

You are right to be wary. My best friend from high school turned into a stranger overnight because she started abusing prescription drugs. She did not look like herself, act like herself, and I did not even feel comfortable with her in my house with my kids. If these people are using, and they have a history of violence between each other, they will not even think twice about hurting you and yours. Stay away, and make sure you stay vocal with the police. Rest assured that they are planning something. They are probably going undercover and are one of the people that you are seeing come in and out.

Good luck, and I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Yeap That sounds to me like a retailer. Specially if it never happen before that means that they had problems where they were doing their business and now they relocate it. I would talk to the mayor like Shawnie said. Good Luck.

The landlord would definitely appreciate knowing.

What I've been told in the past by police is that 'they can't do anything unless they have some hard evidence.'

My mother once lived beside some people that abused their dog. She reported it to the authorities and the dog was taken from them (awesome) but the people then started to be violent towards my mother. They threw eggs at her house, rocks at her car and full pop cans at her. Complaints to the police were met with the above comment. She moved and now lives in a safe neighbourhood.

It sounds like this is one bad apple in an otherwise great place. Personally I think letting the landlord know is more likely to bring about some action than letting the police know.

Best luck to you, stay safe.

Hi Cesch,

I deffinetly would not go over there. I grew up around a very similar situation and things got very scary. My parents and I lived on a private drive, in a nice area, with only four houses. Three of the houses had young kids. The other house had a lady and her adult son living in it. Things started getting wierd when we started getting a lot of traffic on our street (a private drive that dead ended....no reason for any cars to be passing though). We noticed that they had a lot of trailers set up in their yard. People other than them were living on their property. Anyways, things got worse and worse. We found out that the son had been in and out of prison several times. One night there was a fire, and the cops found a meth lab. There were also two stabbings. One happened a few weeks ago. The police have been involved several times, but for some reason, they are still living up there. I think that it is mostly because the mother owns the house and the son is the one that causes the trouble, so he gets punished, but they don't have to move.

I would go to the police as soon as possible and also go to the landlord. If the police won't do anything, the landlord can evict them if things get to bad. Don't wait for something truly bad to happen. I also would be concerned for your kids if they are playing outside. We used to ride our bikes and rollerskate in our street and cars would come speeding through. It got so bad that the neighbors got together and put speed bumps in. I hope that you guys stay safe and that all of this ends very soon.

Thank you all for your concern and comments. I'll def contact the landlord and I'll call the police as many times as needed. I'm on good terms with our Mayor so I'll see what happens there. It's just so frustrating going outside and playing with our girls or checking our garden and seeing all that. It's just crazy. I'll keep you all posted on what happens.

How old your kids? Old enough for the lecture on drugs, or to have had it covered at school? If they are, and even if they've heard it before, just sort of reinforce it in their brains. I wouldn't scare them by telling them every last detail on your neighbors, but give them information.
If they're young, again I don't know, maybe give them a talk on stranger danger, never talk to strangers, never take candy from strangers, never go anywhere with strangers, etc.
I'm sure your a good mom have covered this with them already, but kids don't always have the best memories.
Good luck, I hope things get cleared up soon!

I definitely wouldn't go over there Cesch. Be careful and tread softly. Honestly, I would approach the situation with "worst possible scenario" outlook on it. It may be far fetched, but who knows how dangerous or big this could be. I'd definitely talk to your Mayor, he may be able to give you more information than the police.

STAY AWAY FROM THESE PEOPLE - take out an advert selling Rugs (without a D) in your local newspapers using your neighbours address, offer great deals at ridiculously low prices -advertise each RUG in ounces/lbs/kgs - name the rugs using 'street' drug names (http://www.drugrehab.co.uk/street-drug-names.htm) ie ACID HEAD PERSIAN, KILLER WEED MAT, COLOMBIAN CRYSTAL RUG.

Im sure that after this extra attention your unsavory neighbours will soon move out.

Goodluck

Wouldn't it be illegal to send people to another persons house saying that they are selling things? I mean, even if they're not selling drugs. You can't put an add in the paper saying that your neighbors are selling their car if they don't give you permission. Even if they are selling their car. Plus, that would be sending innocent people looking for home decor to a potentially dangerous place.
I don't know, it seems like it would be the best idea to leave this issue with people who have the power to do something, i.e. police, mayor etc.

I think the best thing to do is not so much to call the cops, but to go over to the precint and file a police report/complaint. Calling and having a desk officer jot down some info is one thing (Nothing), going over in person to fill out the paperwork is another (Makes things official). After that, I would notify the District Attorney of the report/complaint.

Cops are not that motivated to act on things said over the phone, but once there is a record of it on paper, which is usually taken by a desk or other officer and then reviewed by a higher up, it brings upon them a sense of liablity. Trust me, they will check things out just based on the idea of them hearing a "Why wasn't this checked out?" should something serious occur in that house somewhere down the road.

As others have mentioned, don't put yourself at risk or make yourself the target of revenge by going over to their home.

Ohhh I kinda forgot about this thread...So shortly after I started this thread they were busted . The apartment has been empty since. It's sad because the guy had a 1 year old but that's what happens. They were selling meth and I'd much rather the guy be in jail then all spun out on meth and around his kid. Our neighborhood is nice and quiet and safe again!!. YIPEE. Justice prevails.

Good to hear that. Is better to have a neighbor that don't talk to ya than one way to friendly and with some shady business on his house.
