| Who would have thought teaching Kindergarten was dangerous??? My mom is a kindergarten teacher and she dislocated her knee a few years ago by tripping over the leg of a rolling chalkboard. This year, she has broken her foot twice in work related incidents. The last time it was because she tripped over a kid's backpack.
Well today she texts me and says that she broke her leg at work. I thought she was kidding because we always joke about her getting injured at work. Nope, I was wrong. She actually broke her leg in 2 places. I guess a kid was upset that he didn't get a sticker and decided to run out of the classroom. She ran after him and grabbed his arm and he tried to get away and she ended up tripping over him and getting taken by ambulence to the hospital.
I do feel bad for my mom, but I think its a little ironic that she has broken bones three times this year at work As a dancer, I have had less injuries than she has Has anyone else hurt themselves doing something that would not normally be considered a "dangerous" or "high risk" activity? |

| My sister has, she's now got weak ankles so if she doesn't tape her ankles before a game she's guaranteed to sprain it.
I've cut my thump cutting bread, had to go to the hospital for stitches (really long trip, back late, an early morning, and the wrong knife)
I've walked stub my toe and ripped off half the nail.
I sliced the side of my big toe floating into the main pool after coming off a water slide |

| That's sounds like too many broken bones. Have she get a bone density test? in other words a bone scan. I have Osteopenia is like pre-osteoporosis. I have to take 3000 mils of calcium and vit D daily. She might want to get that check out. |

| I have a friend who teaches that gets her purse and cell phone stolen at least once a month. Of coarse she teaches the alternitive school kids.
I can see a lot of injuries for an elemetary school teacher in general, I fall at home frequently with a 7 and 3 year old leaving stuff all through the house. Being pregnant we have to be like wardens with the boys to protect me from falling. I make nightly rounds before bed picking toys up to make sure I don't fall in the middle of the night.
I hope shes okay! |

She falls constantly though which the average person does not do. Two days ago she fell in the backyard....walking on flat ground Hopefully when I get to be her age, if I inherit her bone density, I won't fall quite so often Quote:

I hope shes okay! | My dad teaches at an alternative high school too. Generally the kids are pretty well behaved, but they have had some crazy stuff happen. One kid stabbed the principal in the leg with a fork!!! Most of the time though, they are actually very appreciative and well mannered because they come from difficult situations at home and they appreciate the extra work their teachers put in to help them succeed.
Oh goodness, it would be so scary for you to fall right now. Its good that you have been strict with the boys about leaving stuff around on the floor.
I talked to my mom about an hour ago and she seemed to be in very good spirits. She loves knitting, sewing, and doing crafts, so she will be able to occupy herself with these things while she's layed up. I just hope this is the last fall for a while. |

You might want to consider putting that retiring that throw rug Leave it to you to be thinking about the hot firemen when you just broke your let, lol How is your leg doing now? Quote:

Last time she was layed up she was babysitting one of my bettas and she really enjoyed it. Maybe I should bring her another little friend.......actually water changes might be a problem since she can't walk, lol. Quote:

| I broke my ankle trying to get cattle back in the fence, lets just say I felt no guilt eating a big ribeye that evening as I looked at the cow feild.
One of the bulls charged after my husband that same day, he's lucky he could get away. Ive never seen a fat man run so fast lol.
Its so funny how people injure themselves, its never how you would think you would get hurt. |

| OMG I feel so bad for my mom. Today she was trying to get around on her crutches, lost her ballance, fell straight backwards, and BROKE HER ARM!!! My sister was home with her, and my mom went into shock and was shaking and my sis couldn't get her off the ground. Luckily my dad walked in about 10 minutes later, carried her to the car, and took her to the hospital. Poor thing. I can't believe her bad luck! Now she is in a wheelchair and my dad has to take a few months off work to take care of her until she is able to walk again. She is ablsolutely miserable right now. I feel like she is just too fragile and old to be working with kids that young. Don't get me wrong, 55 isn't that old, but since she is running around after them constantly, I feel like she needs to take an early retirement or just teach an older age group so that she can just sit or stand in front of the class most of the day. She is in good shape and is so young in spirit, it is so frustrated for her to be stuck in bed like this depending on my dad. |

| Thanks guys I think that you missed it in my post earlier. She does have osteoperosis. She takes medicine for it and goes to the bone doctor once a year to get bone scans. My grandma also has it really badly. I guess it runs in our family. I take calcium every day in hopes that I won't get it when I'm older. I am gonna have to take some days off work this week to take care of her. Between everyone in our family, we are gonna have to work out a schedule or something... |

| Wow your poor mother! I feel so bad for her!
I have broken my right leg twice, the first time I was only 6 and was playing tug-of-war with my babysitter, and she pulled me right over! The sad thing was that I was a little over sensitive at the time, crying bloody murder of a skinned knee, and so no one beleived me! They made me try to walk on it and I didn't go to the hospital for three days! So I gloated a bit when we got the x-rays back.
The second time I fell down a whole flight of about 12 stairs. To my defense I was wearing ski boots so there is an excuse for my clumsyness.
And now I have a broken finger. I was hit from behind at track practice and bent my finger back when I broke my fall. I snapped the tendon, cartiledge and broke the bone.
So basically rotton luck. The joke in my family is the my younger brother does just about every sport imaginable and has never even sprained an ankle, whereas I never get any excersise at all. Go figure. |

| MissMTS- I'm so sorry to hear of your Moms bad luck. As we get older we don't heal as easily either. i'm older than your mom so i know. Thank goodness I've never broken a bone but I fall really easily too.

| Your poor mother!
I severed a tendon once, trimming a Christmas tree. The nurse made me explain how it happened, then the doctor, then the examining doctor at the hospital, then the therapist, then the first surgeon, then the anethesiologist, then the surgical nurse, then the second surgeon, then the post op physical therapist, than the occupational therapist. I got so sick of explaining it. They're probably still snickering over it. |

| I'm in school your average English teenager.
I drink two pints of milk a day, yet I managed to break my arm in five places.
After tripping over a pair of jeans.
THAT I WAS WEARING!.
My father's also a Police Officer.
He's: Broken both his legs, dislocated his left should 34 times, his right about 16, broken all fingers, had two teeth knocked out, broken four ribs and both collarbones.
But he's amazing, and allergic to morphine so his pain resistance must be through the roof! |

| Thanks everyone My mom is slowly but surely recovering. I haven't been on the forum much because between work and taking care of her in the mornings, I haven't had much extra time. Osteoperosis is horrible! I hope I don't inherit it from her. |
