fish tank crisis

i found one of my danios swimming around with a chunk of his belly missing last night and i guessed it was the dirty work of my crayfish. the danio is still alive ans swimming around perfectly.

i need to do something with the crayfish, but i got them from my cousin and he has a 4 gallon tank with 9 crayfish in them. i don't want to give them back because his tank is full of them. it isn't a pretty picture. they are just crammed in there. isn't it 1 crayfish per 10 gallons?

but if i give them to the pet shop he will crack it. but if i give them back to him his tank will be even worse.

what should i do?

I'm really sorry your fish was hurt.
Didn't you say they were wild caught? Why don't you return them to where your cousin caught them?

i could do that but he caught them from a place that is like 4 hours away from where i live.

Do you have a temporary tank you could put them in? List them on craigslist or freecycle. You should be able to find a good home for them.

OMG!!! MY BIG BLUE CRAYFISH JUST ATTACKED MY POOR KUHLI LOACH!!! AHHH!! i moved to poor kuhli into my nursery tank for now. the crayfish attacked the kuhli full on just 5 minutes ago, right in front of me. the kuhli is a little ripped apart. it is long and plump, i'm guessing it's a female cause stuff is coming out of a cut and it looks like eggs, tiny greenish eggs.

any way, i'll give the crayfish to my LPS, i don't care what my cousin says, they are out of here. thanks anyway,

lets just hope my kuhli makes it.

I'm really sorry.
I think in your other thread, it was advised that crayfish eat fish.

If the crayfish were wild caught...they will eat everything they can get their little claws on. I suggest finding them a new home as well before you lose all of your fish.

my poor kuhlie looks as if it has broken it's spine. when it tries to swim it can only move his head and the front of his body. the poor thing. i am going to take them to my LPS on tuesday, will the be okay in a breeder box 'till then? i have three spare ones.

I hope you got the crayfish out of the community tank asap! If all else fails you can put them in a bucket of tank water. I feel bad for your fish and your kuhli loach.. those poor things.

Tie up the claws like they do at the restaurants! Your tank must be like a UFC ring!

The loach should be put down easy if the damage from the attack is that bad. Watching a fish with a broken spine and stuff oozing out and not doing anything about it is pretty cruel

I agree with Ricardo. I doubt you can save it, I don't think theres any medicine made for this kind of emergency. I'm not sure what the most humane way to do that is...
You said you have 3 breeder boxes? And three crayfish... I say put them in there until you can get rid of them, but make it as quick as possible.

Clove oil+Vodka. UFC tank guy can research it a little when he's ready to apply it.

i'd observe your kuhli for a day or at least a few hours, if there are no signs of improvement at all, or if she appears extremely listless and worse than today then you may want to put her down. the best way i've heard is with the clove oil and vodka that ricardo suggested. here's a link for you
