| The move is finally over Sorry I haven't been around lately guys. With our big move that we just did on top of everthing else that has been going on I just haven't had time to come on the forum. I hope everyone and their fishies are doing well.
The move went pretty well. I can say this though.....I HATE moving with fishtanks. It was such a pain. On moving day, we had four friends that had promised to help us move. Only one ended up showing up. My husband had an injured back and so it was really hard for them to load up the 26 foot truck by themselves. By the time the truck was loaded, my husband was in so much pain he couldn't lift anything. His brother showed up after he had gotten off of work (though he had told us that he was taking the day off), and helped us unload at the new apartment. If he hadn't shown up, I don't know what we would have done. We did not get done with the move until midnight. I was exhausted and we had to wake up at 4 am to go up to LA for a business trip. I didn't have time to set up my tanks!!! I had the fish in rubbermaid tubs and so I put a filter and heater on each tub so that the fish would have clean water while we were gone. I also added a capful of prime.
I felt so bad leaving them like that, but I didn't have any other choice. We got home on Sunday night. I set up my tanks, but our hot water wasn't working so I had to wait until the heaters in the tanks heated the water to the correct temp. I finally got all of my fish in the tanks by noon on Monday. I am very sad to say that I did have some losses. I was devistated because my platinum pair of angels didn't make it. I also lost two africans, 4 kuhli loaches, 1 bn pleco, and two burmese border loaches. The fish that did survive are doing fantastic though. I have to say, my bettas did the best out of everyone. They didn't show any signs of stress and as soon as I put them back in their tank they started flaring at eachother like everything was normal. I got my pond set up on the patio, only to find out that while being moved, the pond had sprung a leak. I went to Walmart yesterday and got a 50 gallon rubbermaid tub and transfered everything over. I feel horrible about losing so many fish, but I did the best that I could given the situation.
On the bright side, I absolutely love our new apartment It really feels like home. We have really nice neighbors that we have made friends with, and it only takes us 10 minutes to get to work which is a total relief. Anyways, sorry for the novel, lol. I just thought I would let everyone know how everything went. |

| Thanks Shawnie I have missed everyone here too. It is really nice to be settled and to have the move done and over with. Its nice to have some normality again, because things were so stressful for a while. It was really sad losing my fish, but I am thankful that the majority of them pulled through. One thing is for sure, I deffinetly won't be moving again on the near future, lol |

My husband was the first one to look into the tubs when we got home, so at least I was prepaired for what I was about to see. My 75 gallon was majorly overstocked, so at least its not overcrowded anymore (though this is not how I would have liked to solved the problem...I wanted to put my platinum angels in a breeding tank). I deffinetly won't be moving again for a long time, lol. I get to finish stocking my 80 gallon next week though so I am very excited about that Quote:

I felt so bad, but you are right, sometimes we do have to do what we have to do, and I did everything that I could for them. I was worried sick all weekend though! A vacation would be lovely.....I'll have to wait a few more months until I get one though However, it is nice that I will be having a lot more free time now that I am closer to work. Quote:

KATE!!! I've missed you! I'm sorry you lost some fishes, that's always tough. Especially the mated angels! Really sad. I'm glad everything else went well though and you're in your new place! I hope to have good luck too when I inevitably have to move all my tanks.... the 80g will NOT be fun, lol. Anyways, glad to see you back! |

I don't blame you for not wanting to leave them! My smaller 20g tank was easy to move, but it was the huge 55, 70, 75, and 80 gallons that were a pain in the you know what. Hopefully you will have an easier time than I did. Quote:

Now all I have to do is go back and clean the old apartment tonight....yuck! BTW......"froms" What were you trying to spell there? lol Quote:

I was so bummed that I lost my fish. My angels were my favs I kinda want to replace them, but then my tank will be overstocked again....grrrrr. Yup, your 80 gallon is not going to be fun to move. The big tanks are deffinetly the toughies! Hopefully you won't have to worry about it for a while. |

Hopefully you won't have to worry about it for a while. | I remember how upset you were when you lost another one of your angels, and just had it's mate left that didn't know what to do with itself... poor thing.
I'm pretty sure that I'll be moving within the next year, so that'll be joyous.... |

| Yeah, I am tempted to get a mate for my lone female sometime soon. I just feel so bad for her. That will be exciting when you move, even though it will be a pain to move the tanks......just think.....nobody will be around to regulate how many tanks you have |

| Well, there will be someone around to regulate, just hopefully someone more sympathetic to my cause Last edited by pinkfloydpuffer; April 29th, 2009 at 08:22 PM.

| welcome back kate!
It must be such a relief to have the move behind you. I can only imagine what a job it has been. We helped move a couple we know last saturday and I know how overwhelmed she was, as I have been during my own moving times.
Im saddened to hear that you ended up loosing fish.. We can only do our best.. and you did everything you could to keep them alive and happy, if you hadnt Im sure the causality list would have been much longer.
BUT... Congratulations on your new home, Im so happy for you... It sounds like you are going to be very comfortable there. Best of luck and hope your hubby's back is doing better! |

| Thanks Karen Your grandkids are doing great! They took the move like champs. I was very worried about them, and almost brought them in their little tupperwares (that I used to transport them) up to the hotel with me over the weekend, but I was afraid that the drive would be hard for them as well as the freezing temps that the hotel has inside. I will try to get some new pics for ya asap. I haven't pulled out my camara in a while so it will be fun to do another photoshoot, lol. |

| Thanks Cesch Nothing makes me happier than coming home to see my fish doing well! I am seriously thinking of replacing those angels though. I just loved them so much! Technically, my tank is stocked, but I could always just get a mate for my lone female.....or.....I could set up a breeding tank for a new pair of angels |
