| The geeky gamers among us: Ok, from time to time there are posts by those who are geeked out a bit, such as myself, who play MMORPG's (massive multiplayer online role playing games for the non-gamers). The biggest and more known game is World of Warcraft, though I've played nearly everything since I started MMO's in 1997 and playing MUD's prior to that.
Who out there is currently playing an MMO and what is it? I've found myself playing WoW again after not playing for over 6-8 months now. Set my oldest daughter up with a trial account and she and I are playing together on the days she comes home with good citizenship marks, of course I've got it set up so she can't read what other players write and have her accounts tightened up security wise so she can't group with others without me knowing about ie (thanks to certain mods that play very loud sounds when someone or she invites to a group)
So what are you playing or what game are you online game are you waiting for? |

| I play WoW and Left 4 Dead when I have time.
Also, I play a ton of solitaire - doesn't mean I'm any good at it.

| I'm waiting on pins and needles for Diablo III. As are a ton of my friends. WoW is just out of control for some people. |

| I don't do the mmo's but I do enjoy RPG's for Playstation 3. I currently have Oblivion, and I have completed the game already, and hopefully another one of this caliber will come out soon! |

| I play Fate. Does that count? Most of the online multi player games cost money - I don't have that. |

In the last 3 weeks we've already got about 20 mules between us... lol! I am also anxiously awaiting Dragon Age. I am a huge Bioware fan and cannot wait for that game to come out. RPG's are probably always going to be my favorite; hence baldur's gate is one of my all time favorite games.
I used to play warcraft, from about a month after release up to the release of WotLK; which of course means I was playing for a few years. Eventually I did get sick of it. That was my first MMO, and even though I was really into warcraft for so long I will probably not play another MMO, unless there is a really great one that comes out and strikes my fancy.
Other than that, I did start out playing FPS and they are also my favorites! Unreal Tournament 3 is old now I guess, but I still play it. |

I hated the time wasted in managing items. I know of about 8 or so confirmed friends who will be playing this so I can see this being a blast from the launch. |

| Indeed!
Blizzard does have a pretty strong following. They do know how to make games.
Needing all the mules in D2 right now is even more annoying, because I swear their latest patch increased the drop rate on yellow/unique items. I almost never saw one 5 years ago (last time I played), but now it's very common. Now, I'm not complaining too much, because I do love seeing much more of the cool stuff! |

| I don't do the MMORPGs... I'm spending too much time with real gaming; pen and paper stuff.
And you call yourselves gamers.
Okay, really, the only reason I don't play the MMORPGs is because I refuse to pay $50 for a game and then an extra $10-20 a month to be able to play it. That costs way too much when I've got to buy RPG books, too. |

Fate was only $20. |

| It's more expensive for me to be console games than it is to play MMO's generally speaking. Most console games take me about 2 weeks to play through as I have issues sleeping so am up a lot late at night, usually. If I were to do that, most games would cost me 30-50 every month, which would be $360-600 a years.
MMO's produce new content on a decent enough bases that I don't mind paying the $15 fee as they are adding new stuff to the game regularly. Not counting major game altering expansions, the initial cost of the game + 11 months worth of subscription would run me $215. If I were to buy a lunp some sub. in the 3 month, 6 month, 1 year categories, it would be significantly cheaper still.
So for me, it's is by far cheaper to buy MMO's and pay their fees than it is to by console or other PC games. |

| I've been having computer and internet issues lately so I haven't been playing online much, the only online game that I have recently played is call of duty 2. I've played that game for about 600 hours plus online.
I have a xbox360 without live, I really want live but our internet is really bad so I don't know if it would be worth it. But my friend has live and we play left 4 dead too, and it is so fun to play online!
I used to play guild wars, then my internet went to junk and now I don't play that anymore.
I also play dungeons and dragons here and there. |

| One other thing about online play that I don't relish is that there are so many downright jerks out there.
I played Guild Wars a few years ago, and during one of the special events, I had put together a party to take on the special dungeon. A couple of the people started ragging on the fact that one of the party members wasn't as super-charged as they wanted, and ended up leaving the party.
I won't play Rainbow Six vs mode online, either, because I've had too many run-ins with biggots (randomly calling people racial/religious/personal pejoratives as generic insults). Co-op's cool, though. |

I don't mind term use (pay for a term of use, 1 month or a year..whatever). But I will not BUY a game and then pay to use it thereafter. It's like buying a movie but paying rental fees every time you watch it. Ridiculous.
Left 4 dead is only $24 this weekend...and no subscription fee. |

| I really should buy left 4 dead, such a fun game to play.
I don't like that once an online game has been around a while, everyone is to uber-gamer like and only wants to play with the really good people. Like when I first played guild wars when it first came out, everyone was so nice and helpful and didn't care what "build" you had, now if your not something someone needs, then there's no hope to play the game. |

| gears of war on 360, great game although i agree with sirdarksols comments, lots of ' biggots' 'randomly racial/religious/personal pejoratives as generic insults' - i choose to play without a headset so i dont have to listen to said bigots. |
