| LOL Shawnie... yep.. the bucket brigade ugghh.... Well, I am down to 4 tanks from 7 and two of them being ten gals betta tanks.. So tank cleaning day isnt so bad anymore plus I use the python which makes it much easier.
Monday is my house cleaning day... but it will still involve tanks tho. I have to finish taking out the gravel out of the 29 and the 10 and do a good cleaning of it all. And maybe.. just maybe hit a few thrift stores today for the fun of it. |

| I do my tank cleaning on Sunday, and I have 6 tanks now. Three are 5g and 2 are 10g so it isn't that bad, but it is the water testing that is torture! It takes so long to test all of the water! The actual siphoning isn't so bad. If I had bigger tanks I would definately get the python! |

I ended up having to use the bathroom sink for the python to fit. Im sure I can go and find some kind of adapter for the kitchen sink at a plumbing supply, the local hardware had nothing that would fit. theres got to be some kind of adapter you can use.. my goodness you have an awful lot of bucket carrying to do this way.
Well.. come on down and we will make a day of going from thrift store.. to thrift store to flea market! your always welcome here... |

I WILL visit one day for sure!!! |

I guess it is just habit and being a relative newbie still, I get nervous. Also, something I read on here was to test your tank once a week when you do your tank maintenance. I caught a mini cycle once by doing this and started doing 50% water changes. This saved my fish IMO. However.... I went into a mini cycle because I added too many fish which I won't do again!
How often do you test yours? |

| Good morning Shawnie ,I also agree with the detest of the bucket brigade, but I find myself setting myself up for more. After a week of 60 and 70 degree weather we end up with it snowing today,so day off. I'm thinking today is the day I go pick up the 40 gallon tall I had talked about in an earlier thread. Full blown MTS setting in I'm thinking. yay more buckets to carry |

How often do you test yours? | im so not downing your ways, and as a new fish owner, kudo's to you!!! everyone has their own methods to madness in this hobby for sure lol....
I usually only test once a month out of curiosity....unless im setting up a new tank then i do it daily to keep track of my progresses.....
my maintenance is similiar and I weekly put new water in for evaporation , but only do water changes every other week as my tanks are well established and over filtered...unless they are newly set up ...then i change once a week for a couple months....overcleaning and not letting some of the natural process to happen in a tank , is something that I think can hurt also....by no means do I mean let things build up and get icky , but most of my tanks have been running over a year or the media has that was used to start them
the longer we are in the hobby, the more things change and work for us that wont for others...its an every day learning experience IMO ... Quote:

| Thanks Shawnie! I didn't think you were downing my ways, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something! LOL I will probably still check at least the big tank every week for a while. Everything is going great in there, but it will give me a sense of security that I still need as a 5 month newbie! I can look at those test tubes and say Yay! Yellow, Blue, Dark Orange! Yippeee! |

| I did a w/c this morning as well on my 26g. I do different tanks on different days. Makes it a little easier and since I have the time it also gives me something to do. I really do enjoy it and actually look forward to it. |
