Bloody Parrots Adapted

Hello. Just a bit of info on my juvenile Bloody Parrots (BR's). They have been in their new home for 1 month today and thriving. This morning was the first morning that I didn't have to coax them from their terracotta urn after the lights came on. They saw me coming down the stairs and were anxiously waiting to be fed. Yeah!!!!! They are still a bit shy when it comes to randomly walking by the tank. Too, they are having to deal with construction people in and out of my house. I'm very PROUD of them. I knew they could do it.

Congrats on your new tank inhabitants. I'm sure they'll be thankful finding themselves in a good home!

Hi Aquarist...
that is great, glad to hear they are getting used to their new home. It does take awhile for them to not be so shy, but most of the time settle in well with their owners. Have you tried just sitting in front of the tank without moving much? Just observing the tank behavior? When ever I do this, my BRs will peek their heads out of the pots and slowly venture out and actually do come up to the glass in front of me. I have one juvi/baby that is nothing like the rest in personality or looks. This one is more greenish with a hint of red under its chin, the black horizontal broken bar along its side and the stripes. This baby has more Green Severum than a Midas or Red Cichlid parentage. And the attitude to go along lol.. even challenged the convict when it used to be in that tank, does not run away and comes up to the front of the tank all the time and acts nothing like the other BRs. Funny looking little thing too lol..
Best of luck with your BRs and when construction gets really too busy with a lot of moving by the tank etc etc, you may want to just cover the tank so your BRs wont get too nervous?

Hello CapeKate! Aren't the BR's just great?! I can actually view the tank from upstairs, and I see them (without them seeing me) out and about and playing all the time. I like to just sit in the floor face to face...I can wave my finger and they'll come out. As long as I don't make any too sudden moves, they do quiet well. Thanks for the tip on covering the tank during construction. I don't know why I didn't think of that. duh!!! lol

My adult BR's in the 155...they refuse to hide. Construction doesn't bother them a bit. I keep my lights off during the hottest part of the day (11am-4pm) all the time. Too, I've had to cover half of this tank to prevent it from being chipped or broken giving them a bit more security if they wanted to be really out of the picture.

I don't think I've ever seen (in person) a BR other than the orange ones. I do have one that is more yellow than orange and one with NO TAIL (that particular gene was omitted).
Thanks again!
