Can you see the young girls face in one of these pics without maximizing the photo? It took a couple takes but the fry finally cooperated lol, just kidding.

Yes to the Oatmeal! I noticed a while back that Gwinnbrook Discus Farms adds oatmeal to their homemade Discus food.

When its sticky like pudding it sinks fast and doesn't fall apart not even after a few hours. I did read where you can mix other fish food proteins with it but for me it was just a fluke try. Of course this is the old fashioned cooked oatmeal no sugars or salts.

The girls face is the 2nd to last photo two center fry are the eyes, bottom 3rd the nose, the rest at the to the hair like Medusa.

Cool on the food....check Gwynnbrook Dicus. They have the recipe posted. I did it once with ground beef heart, shrimp and tetra flakes....my Discus grew like hotcakes. Cooking and grinding was a mess, but was fun to try and it does make a good cichlid food.

I was thinking perhaps a much lazier version to coincide with my daily morning cooked oatmeal. Since there is always plenty in the pot left over maybe I could mix a batch with 50% fish flake/crumbled FD worms then while still soft extrude a batch with a spatula into an old empty brine shrimp 20 cube mold. Then put the whole thing in ziplock into the freezer for easy pop out single cube portions later. Another way I was thinking is to use Walmart cooked shelled shrimp for about $7 a pound which is still way cheaper then brine shrimp. Use the food processor and grind it up real fine and mix with oatmeal.

Incredible how oartmeal stays soft underwater but doesn't cloud or fall apart.

PS, I had to set my camera to 12 MP and use the macro setting and put a wide piece of wrinkled up aluminum foil behind and above the flash arm to disperse the flash better and keep a shadow from forming because I was so close to the glass. Using my old (2002) Fuji FinePix S7000

homeade fish food is best and cheapest...throwing in some veggies to the mixture also....just wanted to give a little reminder to add a bit of plain gelatin to the final mixture or you will have a mess when feeding the cubes as they thaw in the tank (been there did it no fun)

What about already cooked canned veggies like string beans?
