Brackish Water Aquarium

I've been cycling my 20 now for about 2 weeks. All the while thinking what I want to put in it. A long time ago I had a brackish water tank and the fish I had were wonderful! 2 scats, 1 mono and 2 figure 8 puffers.
I don't see much conversation about brackish water tanks. Their not all that hard to maintain and there are numerous species that we've kept in fresh water that actually come from brackish water, giving us a wide choice in stalking the tanks.
What an adventure!! So here goes......

I just found out that my Orange Chromides are actually Brackish water fish. If not kept in such water they tend to loose their beautiful colors and may stop eating. Does anyone have the best way possible to acclimate my fishes from fresh to brackish?

I'm not to educated about brackish..I know several people keep brackish tanks here..Pinkfloyd puffer keeps brackish tanks. She and others could give you some good advice. Also you could use the search here at fishlore to see if you could come up with some advice untill someone else chimes in..Good luck with it.

I don't have the link on hand (will search my book-marks) but I believe the best is to slowly increase the salinity week by week. I'll look up by how much for you. If they're in a fresh-water community you could grab an extra cycled fitler and do this is a rubber-made tub or spare tank.

Sorry I can't find it but I'm guessing that the same rule for moving fish to brakish would be similar to converting the bacteria over as well. (When setting up brakish tanks some just slowly increase the salinity of the their freshwater set ups) I can't find the link about it anymore though... I'll keep looking.

Found this link read the part about acclimating brackish fish it might help you out.

Well she's up and running, with fish even! 5 chromides, 1Gobi (LFS didn't know what it was) so I'm gonna look it up. Nil on the Nitrites, less then 20 on Nitrates, Hardness is at 300, alkalinity 120 and the pH is 7.8 not bad for a first timer on brackish. I'm learning even more about fish by putting up this brackish. Next endeavor? 8gal bio-cube salt. Then I'll be set!!
