Right guys i have a problem, its my best friends birthday and being a guy, i dont have a clue what too get her, she really wants to be an author if that helps lol.

| i think it would help if we knew her age and your price range. =)
how about gift card to a book store like b&n, the strand, or borders.. i love to read but i hate buying books for myself. or get her a book that you love but she hasn't read yet.
food? flowers? both are not permanent. you could bake/cook something.. most girls don't expect guys to be able to cook so it shows effort.
movie/show/concert tickets?
a photo album of pics of you two together.. kinda like a scrap book but you can order it online or even at some stores nowadays (try major pharmacies, target or walmart).
edit: to personalize a book, write something on the inside front cover or write something on a nice bookmark and include it with the gift. of course, don't write in a first edition!!

| Bath soaps and such. Maker her a gift basket of pretty smelling soaps, bath oils, body lotions. Women really seem to enjoy pampering themselves in the tub. You could even throw a scented candle in that basket.
When you get a bit older you can include a bottle of wine. | |

| I find it's always nice to take a girl out for coffee or something and just let her complain about all her friends, and say "I totally agree" once in a while. Women love to complain, *cough* I mean chat about their friends...and they like coffee.
