Today is a pretty monumental day for me and my husband After the day that I had yesterday, I needed something to perk me up, lol. We have been living in a tiny and old one bedroom apartment and trying to cut back on expenses for the past two years. We have really wanted a bigger place, but we were trying to save money and get out of debt. It has been a tight squeeze with a dog, cat, fishtanks, and my husbands music production equiptment. We have even been paying for a storage unit to store extra furniture. We have a 45 minute commute to work every day and it is really hard to deal with. We spend almost $400 in gas each month!!!

Today my husband was in a sullen mood and was talking about how he would really like for us to move to an apartment closer to work. I told him that I felt the same, but I would only consider it if we didn't go over more than $200 over our current monthly rent, didn't have to pay a full months rent as a deposit, and if we could upgrade to a larger place. We both thought it was a long shot, but I told him I would get on the computer and look.

Well, long story short, we found a luxury apartment complex, 8 minutes away from our job, in a nice neighborhood, and with 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms that was within our price range. We went to look at the apartment still skeptical because we haven't checked our credit score lately and haven't gotten approved for anything in years. Well apparently we've been doing something right because we got approved, found out that our credit scores are a lot higher than they used to be, and signed the lease today within one hour of finding the apartment online!!!! We move in next month! I am beyond happy!

Thanks guys! I am so excited and I can't believe that I can't move in for another month. I was just amazed at how quickly and perfectly everything worked out I am really happy cause now my tanks won't monopolize all the space in our apartment and we can take our furniture out of our storage unit and put it to use!

Ohhh Kate, I am so happy for you and your husband! Your new rent sounds wonderful! And too think of all the money you are still going to save now, no more 400 dollar a month gasoline bill, no more monthly storage unit bill... It sounds like you will be ahead in many ways!

I'll have to agree, it's important to look at the whole picture when considering the costs. Some apartments are cheaper, but you end up paying more for utilities because of old appliances and poor insulation.

Thanks so much you guys! I feel like it was really meant to be We were going to practically give away the stuff in our storage unit for free (including our big screen tv) just to get rid of the storage bill. Someone was supposed to come and pick up the tv on Sunday night and we couldn't get into our unit so they didn't take it. Now we have room for all of our stuff and I am soooo happy that we didn't give it all away.

BTW, Tavel, congrats on signing your lease tomorrow
