Random snarkiness (that's not a bad word is it?)

This is partly a rant. I belong to multiple forums (as I suspect many of us do). And I am just getting so irritated with random snottiness that I've seen elsewhere. I don't expect everyone to agree at all times, in fact I expect the opposite. But man, what ever happened to common courtesy?

Having said that, I wanted to also point out that I almost never see that in this forum, which is one of the reasons I rather like it.

So I guess this post is a *rant* and *applause* all in one.

Glad you like it here, haedra! We have lots of great members...most everyone here is very polite and respectful. Every now and then someone gets a little over the line, but there are enough mods that those posts are usually pulled pretty quickly.

I'm a member on other forums but with the exception of one I rarely go on them. I usually find that atmosphere is a bit antagonistic. I'm not a realy agressive in your face sort of person and I try to avoid situations like that in life so I don't willingly get myself into them on fourms if I don' have to.

ah yes. so many people get brave when there is a monitor and keyboard instead of a real person in front of them. im on a womens board with close to 1000 members. its scary there sometimes. lol. the most civilized boards im on are this one and my crafting board. lol. gotta watch out for people coming at you with knitting needles :P

There's still some rudeness going on here, but not nearly as much as on some other forums. I frequent this forum and one other forum (guess which one ) because they both have a great environment.

I'm new here, like, very new, started yesterday, and I have yet to see people being rude. I love this forum so far
On other forums, there are quite a few people that put you down when you ask any sort of question, and are just over all rude. They act as if they are better than everyone else. Icky.

I also belong to multiple forums. I love the atmosphere on Fishlore which is why I post here more than anywhere else. I love that the mods keep this forum family friendly so that any rudeness is quickly dealt with. Thanks mods I have gotten good information off of other forums, but overall, this forum has the nicest people who are the most eager to help. I also like how active this forum is. I am an impatient person and I hate to wait 5 days for someone to answer my post, lol.

I'm also new, but not to forums. I belong to (I run two of them) lots of other forums, and I must say that this one has fast become a favourite of mine that I visit daily. The members and Mod's have been helpful, courteous, kind, and so welcoming.

This was the whole point of Mike making Fishlore. All of the other aquarium forums he found were places where everybody considered him-/her-self an expert, and crammed it down the throat of any newbies to the forum.
Fishlore is supposed to be a place where a new person can come on and ask a question, no matter how stupid they may think it is or how many mistakes they have made, and get an honest answer with the intention of helping the fish and the aquarist, not belittling the aquarist for "being an idiot."
We've all been there. We've all made those stupid mistakes, and thus we don't have the right to belittle someone else for making the same mistake.

Of course, we're all human, and sometimes people get frustrated with what seems like answering the same question over and over again, or it may seem like a new person has been overly cruel to their fish (even though it's likely just been ignorance, not cruelty, that's caused the problems), but even in those cases, between the members, the mods, and Mike, any situations of rudeness get dealt with quickly and (I hope) fairly.

I have to say that I have looked at other forums, and I even belong to one or two, but I will go on this one 99% of the time. It feels like family, and even though we do not see each other, we can empathize, share things in our lives, and get some great information from great people. It is definately a user friendly forum on many levels.

Indeed, this place is very unique.

What I find ironic, is that what I've found to be the best and most accurate information has come from this forum. But it has been from the people elsewhere that think they just know everything; when the truth is about some things they couldn't be more wrong.

I come here more often now, because it's like a breath of fresh air; after mucking around in other forums where I see either bad, or so-so advice being given, all with an air of absolute authority that is just plainly absurd.

The adults will know what I speak of, when I say I need to wear hip boots when I visit some of the other forums.

I checked out a few other forums when looking for a place to read about fish. This was the only one were I felt comfortable signing up and actually posting questions and participating in the discussion.
