What to do with 10 gallon? (not a stocking Q)

My 10 gallon tank is doing horribly... My last sparkler is going down the tubes in health, algae is taking over the tank because my shrimp refuse to eat it, and the plants aren't growing at all. I'm not sure what to do with this tank, I'm not sure if I want to get more fish because it just seems like all the fish that I've put in it die within a month of going in. I'm thinking about dismantling it, scraping all the algae off and starting over. What would you do? Thanks!

how long have you had the tank up and running? did you let it cycle? and what kind of filtration do you use?

maybe try very frequent water changes keeping lights off and scraping algae repeatedly

I have had the tank for about a year and a half now, when I first began the hobby of keeping fish, it's cycled. I had a school of neons that died in there because of NTD, do you think it might be that?

hmm, it could be that there's some kind of disease in your tank. if you've had that much happen to it, i'd dismantle the whole thing, bleach the whole tank (1 part bleach 19 part water) and rinse until you can't smell bleach anymore. then boil all of the gravel and decorations (or everything that can be boiled) and buy new filter media. that should definitely take care of anything in there

If you don't want to put fish into it you could try going a different route with it. I'll see if I've still got the link but you could try a sort of palindrome tank.

This guy ^^ had a really neat set-up and it might be something that would be different for you to try.

I was thinking about going the route of non-fish, but I don't have many options with the bad pet store in town. I think when it gets warmer I might just take the whole thing down and figure out what to do with it then. Thanks!

i'd get a fire-bellied newt or an axolotl, but i'm not sure if a 10 gal is big enough for an axolotl
