Yippee a new tank for me

I found a deal I couldn't pass up so I'm going tomorrow morning to get it. It's a 55 gallon with matching stand, heater, filter, hood and lights and air pump for $50.00. What a deal ..Now I know for sure I want Blood Red Parrot's...like 2 of them..What else should I get?

Oh my goodness that is quite a terrific find!

Firemouths? I don't know about the compatibility... just like the fish and think it could be a nice blend of color.

I don't know much about compatibility either but I'll do some research on that one to see if it would work..Thanks Emory.

That is a killer deal...Congrats! I love new tanks, they are the best You could probably put a firemouth in with the blood parrots. I wouldn't do more than 3 large cichlids in a 55 though. I have seen BP's kept with convicts as well. A severum would also do well with them, but you would need to upgrade the tank as the sev got bigger

I'm not to kean on the firemouths..I think i'll just have my two BRP"s be the "big" fish of the tank and get some smaller fish...Any ideas??..I know they can't be to small or they will be lunch.

Honestly the BP's have wierd mouths and can't really swallow much. Here are a few ideas:

2 BP's: 20 inches
5 Panda Cories: 10 inches
6 Rainbows (turqoise, boesemani, or red irian)

or

2 BP's: 20 inches
1 BN Pleco: 4 inches
4 Burmese Border Loaches: 16 inches
8 Tetras (high bodied) (Lemon, Pristella, Serpae, etc): 16 inches

Thanks for the ideas...I really love cories..I have 3 peppered cories in my 30 gallon right now, I've had them for about 2 weeks and they are super cute..Panda's are my favorite. I'll have to study up on the rainbows, loaches and tetra's.

I love rainbows and loaches. I didn't keep them until recently but they are some of the coolest fish I own If you have loach questions, Carol (Butterfly) is a great person to ask

I have 9 Bloody Parrots....silver dollars and rainbows are good tank mates. Pleco and cory's. They all get along great.

I'm SOOO upset..She sold it out from under me!!!...I drove all the way up there and she had sold it to someone else this morning..She even said she would save it for me.....What ever happened to keeping your word...I'm not going to let it get to me to bad..I guess it wasn't meant to be. ...I'm really upset though and I might just go out and buy a new one to make me feel better.

Thanks Shawnie..I'm trying not to be a cry baby about it..lol...I was super nice to the lady too...even though she made me drive 4 hours for nothing.
I really had my heart set on getting it. Good luck with your set up too. We both might end up with new tanks

Wow Cesch I'm sorry to hear that, it would be disappointing. Someone like that probably just wanted the whole thing off their hands ASAP and obviously didn't care all that much about who took it or whether they promised it to someone or not...maybe it had something seriously wrong with it, and you've just avoided inheriting someone else's headache

I always find around here the 'deals' on craigslist etc go like within an hour, and then there's all these things like Ten gallon tank (just the tank...) for $75!!! So I always somehow end up buying new...usually tons more expensive but less hassle.

Wow, that really stinks. I don't even know what to say about a person that says they'll hold something then let you drive 4 hrs.
Guess I don't have to say anything, just their actions say a lot about their character.

Really sorry Cesch, maybe it's a sign that there's something better for you.

Thanks guys!!..I really appreciate it. All your comments are sure cheering me up. I was so upset..I agree Lucy...What kind of person does that??...Guess I'm better off not knowing. I didn't have my girls with me either thank goodness. It's freezing cold here..I might of been a little more upset with the lady if I would have had to get my babies out in this. Ohhhhhh well. I'll come acrosss something else. Maybe since I was sooooo nice about it I'll get something extra special sent my way.

That is my thinking too ..I always let Karma take care of things and it seems to never fail. Kinda funny but every time I stub a toe or fall or hit my head or even have bad luck..I think crud...What did I just do...lol..

i'm so sorry cesch. that happened to me a few weeks ago (but it's almost better that it did). a woman posted about a 120 gallon tank with a stand, filters, heaters, etc for $250!!!!!!!! luckily i was on craigslist at exactly the time that she posted it, and i told her that if she would hold it for me i'd give her $275 or $300 for it. she emailed me back saying that $250 was fine and i could come pick it up the next day, so i told her i'd be there before 5 (it was a Saturday). she emails me at about 1:30 right as i'm getting ready to leave, saying she sold it that morning for $300! needless to say i wasn't very happy, but my mother would have killed me if i brought that tank home anyways (there's no way i'd have room for that in my dorm!)
