Hmmm.... the things you find out about yourself...

I bought Jungle "Lifegaurd" tabs to treat Mer. So I doesed his tank and was working on my laptop and noticed that the thumb and forefinger on my right-hand felt kinda funny almost numbish/swollen. However it went away and I didn't think of it... Now my lips are feeling slightly swollen.
Apparently from now on I'll be using gloves with these meds

hmmm, that's interesting. do you have any allergies or do you think that there is some kind of irritant in it?

How are you feeling now?? I would worry if it gets any worse at all as it could lead to a swollen windpipe and that can be bad news for sure. Better than handling with gloves is to get some one else to handle it for you and be careful handling the water with the meds in it as you may react to that to...good luck.

Fishies-for-me: <hugs>
Thanks for the concern. I'm fine now it didn't last long and swollen lips seems to have been the worst of it. However I'll make sure not to work with it without gloves from now on in case subsequent rxns are worse.

agabr: I don't know. The only allergies that I do have are to various people medications so it could be that. However the box seems to be very clear that any overdosing should be dealt with imidietly so who knows what's in it. However haveing just re-read the box sounds like this med will kill my cycle. (YAY! ) Some other high-lights are:
active ingrediant- 1-chloro-2,2,5,5-tetramethyl-4-imidazolidinone
broadspectrum, non-antibiotic agent
DO NOT OVERDOSE, IF OERDOSE OCCURS ADD CARBON OR DECHLORINATOR AS DIRECTED TO IMMEDIATE NEUTRALIZATION...
Do not use with scaleless fish, invertebrates, or newly set up tanks.
Treat for 5 days...

I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. That's so scary! Allergic reactions really scare me because my sister has really severe allergies and has to cary an epipen arround with her. I would deffinetly use gloves next time.

Yup and it looks really silly IMO

It was likely (though not guaranteed to be) that active ingredient, and you probably just had a skin reaction to it. You probably accidentally touched your lips with your hand (you'd be amazed at how often people do that without realizing it), which is why they had an issue.

Definitely a good idea to wear gloves when dosing the tank.

You can be allergic to almost anything... or have random reactions to things that you might not the next time. The human body is weird!

When I first set up my 10 gallon, before I had discovered the nitrates in my tap, I was using Jungle's Start Right.

After working in the tank for a little while to arrange things and what not, I ended up with a tender rash on the backs of my hands the the portions of my arms that had been in the water. It went away by the next morning, and it has never reappeared. I never did figure out exactly what caused it.
